Ships carrying such cargoes shall be provided with a certificate of

protection from the manufacturer, and kept during the voyage,

specifying:

3.5 Special requirements

Chapter 15 – Special requirements

the name and amount of additive present;

whether the additive is oxygen-dependent;

date additive was put in cargo and duration of effectiveness;

any temperature limitations qualifying the additive’s effective lifetime;

the action to be taken should the length of voyage exceed the lifetime of the additive;

3.5 Special requirements

Chapter 15 – Special requirements

A product containing an oxygen-dependent additive shall be carried without inertion (in tanks of a size not greater than 3,000 m3). Such cargoes shall not be carried in a tank requiring inertion under the requirements of SOLAS chapter II-2.

3.5 Special requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

The quantity of a cargo required to be carried in a type 1 ship shall not exceed 1,250 m3 in any one tank.

The quantity of cargo required to be carried in a type 2 ship shall not exceed 3,000 m3 in any one tank.

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

Tanks carrying liquids at ambient temperatures shall be so loaded as to avoid the tank becoming liquid-full during the voyage, having due regard to the highest temperature which the cargo may reach.

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

Any cargo offered for bulk shipment shall be indicated in the shipping documents by the product name which it is listed in chapters 17 or 18 of the Code or the latest edition of MEPC.2/Circ.(Tripartite Agreement) or under which it has been previously assessed.

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

Where column “o” in the table of Chapter 17 refers to paragraph 16.2.6, the cargo viscosity at 20C shall be specified on a shipping document, and if the cargo’s viscosity exceed 50 mPa.s at 20C, the temperature at which cargo has a viscosity of 50 mPa.s shall be specified in the shipping documents.

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

Information shall be on board, and available to all concerned, giving the necessary data for the safe carriage of the cargo in bulk. Such information to be kept in an accessible place, indicating all cargo on board, including, for each dangerous chemicals carried:

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

1.A full description of the physical and chemicals properties, including reactivity, necessary for the safe containment of the cargo;

2.Action to be taken in the event of spills or leaks;

3.Countermeasures against accidental personal contact;

3.5 Operational requirements

Chapter 16 – Operational requirements

4.Fire-fighting procedures and fire-fighting media; and

5.Procedures for cargo transfer, tank cleaning, gas-freeing, ballasting.

For those cargoes required to be stabilized or inhibited, the cargo shall be refused if the appropriate certificate required is not supplied.
