Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk.

3.3 BCH Code

Provides an international standard for the safe carriage of dangerous and noxious chemicals in bulk by prescribing the constructional feature of ships, regardless of tonnage.

3.3 BCH Code

Provides details of the equipment they should carry as to minimize risk to the ship, its crew and to the environment, having regard to the nature of the products involved.

Chemical tankers constructed before 1st of July 1986 must comply to BCH Code.

3.3 BCH Code

Even if the ship is falls under BCH Code constructional requirements, the summary of minimum requirements of the products to be carried should be checked in chapter 17 of the IBC Code.

3.4 IBC Code

The purpose of this Code is to provide an international standard for the safe carriage, in bulk by sea, of dangerous chemicals and noxious liquid substances listed in the Chapter 17 of the Code.

3.4 IBC Code

The Code prescribes the design and construction standards of ships, regardless of tonnage, involved in such carriage and the equipment they shall carry to minimize the risk to the ship, its crew and the environment, having regard to the nature of the products involved.

3.4 IBC Code

The basic philosophy of the Code is to assign, to each chemical tanker, one of the ship types according to the degree of the hazards of the products carried by such ships.

3.4 IBC Code

Each of the products may have one or more hazardous properties, including flammability, toxicity, corrosivity and reactivity, as well as the hazard they may present to the environment.

The Code is applicable to all chemical tankers built on or after 1st of July 1986.

3.4 IBC Code

Since 1993 the list of products in BCH Code have been replaced by references to the IBC Code. As a result, the IBC Code is now the definitive source of names for products subject to Annex II to MARPOL 73/78.

The revised edition of IBC Code came into force from 1st of January 2007.
