6. Система вищої освіти в Україні (The system of higher education in Ukraine)
In Ukraine higher education is considered to be one of the main human values. Higher school in Ukraine has got developed training, scientific, and social infrastructure. Every citizen of Ukraine or any other country may obtain education of different levels.
The system of higher education in Ukraine consists of universities and academies, polytechnic, pedagogical, agricultural, law, economic and medical institutes. The majority of educational institutions report to the Ministry of Education, with the exception of religious and military ones. There are more than 940 higher educational institutions in Ukraine.
Higher educational establishments in Ukraine are headed by Rectors. An institute or a university has a number of different faculties. Higher educational establishments in Ukraine offer the following educational and qualification degrees: “Specialist”, “Bachelor”, and “Master”. Training in higher educational institutions may be carried out with the interruption of work (daytime education), without interruption of work (evening, correspondence education), and for certain professions – without attending classes. Teaching of any subject may combine lectures, practical classes, seminars, and individual classes. There is also a great deal of independent study. Students write different essays, reports, projects, and make presentations on various topics. Students are also involved in extracurricular activities. They go on excursions, visit museums or exhibitions, take part in sport competitions, or are members of an amateur drama group, a musical group or a choir.
Graduates of higher educational institutions, who have outstanding inclinations for scientific-research work, have an opportunity to continue their studies at the post-graduate and doctorate course. Then he or she receives a Candidates Degree or a Doctoral Degree.
Nowadays the system of higher education in Ukraine has flexible structure, corresponds to modern trends to those in advanced countries recognized by UNESCO, United Nations Organization, and many other international organizations. Higher education supplies all spheres of national economy with highly qualified professionals.
7. Подорожі як один з аспектів освіти у позанавчальний час (Travelling as one aspect of extra-curricular education)
Modern life is impossible without travelling. Adults and children often get tired of the same surroundings and daily routine and some relaxation is essential to restore their mental and physical resources. That is why the best way of relaxation, in my opinion, is travelling adventure. It keeps people from growing stale and old, and develops their imagination.
Travelling is also extremely important to education. Student travel tours, when arranged through a reputable company or organization, are generally very informative and well-guided. First of all, through travel tours, students are allowed to actually see and experience countries, cities, sites, and landmarks. Students are truly given the opportunity to see and experience new places and things that cannot come from books, papers, computers, teachers, or any other medium of education.
Travelling often enhances language skills, since in travel they become a matter of necessity. Interpreting gestures will lead you to learn new words, as well as local colloquialisms. You can practice your existing skills as you move about a country.
You can read about history in a book, or you can actually experience it. Many places offer more than meets the eye. For example, Breckenridge, Colorado, is known for its ski resort, but this former Victorian mining town has done a superb job of preserving its heritage. You can tour the mines or visit some of the well-preserved Victorian homes. Boston is another example. It’s an exciting party town, but you can also evoke the American Revolution by walking the Freedom Trail. A walk through the Coliseum in Rome will transport you back to the days of the Roman Empire. It may be impressive in pictures, but it’s overwhelming when you see it in real life.
Travel tours are an integral part of learning and should be arranged for students when possible as they truly enhance education and make learning both exciting and fun.
