What factors are the most important while choosing a job?

Your career search has to look for everything.

Be systematic. Analyze your problem. Determine what information you have. Then go after the information you need. First, start with yourself. Make a list of inventory of your interests, your talents, your abilities. The interest inventory covers the major fields in which people find their careers: science, arts, social service, business, sales.

Factors considered when choosing your fist job

I want to:

  • enjoy my job

  • like the people I work with

  • have enough money to afford the things I enjoy

  • receive training

  • find the work stimulating

  • have an inspirational* boss

  • have a good social life

  • have the opportunity to take professional qualifications

  • work for a respected** company

  • have a position of responsibility

  • be passionate about the industry I work in

  • have job security***

  • be in control of freedom at work

  • work for a well-known company

  • not have to work overtime or at weekends

  • have a job that will take me abroad

  • have an excellent salary

  • have other people think what I do sounds good

*-motivating; **-people think well of (the company); ***-no worry about losing your job

What type of failures do companies experience while recruiting people? Can these failures be avoided?

There are many ways in which an organization can recruit people. There are two types of recruitment – internal and external. Nowadays it is corporate culture for many companies to hire internally. Posting a list of vacancies on the company notice board or publishing it in employee magazines is fairly common and gives current employees the opportunity of applying for a position. Similarly, a subordinate may be offered a position for his or her superior.

Another means of recruiting internally is to search in the organization’s existing files. Some companies have a data base of their employees’ skills and special interests. Reviewing these files periodically may reveal employees who are well-suited to a particular position.

Although recruiting people within the organization can have many advantages, it does have its limitations. If companies wish to be dynamic it is essential to inject new blood from time to time. Similarly, existing employees may not have the necessary skills that the position requires. Consequently, it is often necessary to recruit people from outside the organization.

Advertising is a commonly used technique for recruiting people from outside. The advertising medium should be chosen according to the type of public the organization is aiming at. If a highly specialized person is required, a specialty publication such as a trade magazine may be most appropriate

What should you keep in mind preparing for your interview?

-candidate can learn more about the vacancy

- the interviewee is selling himself, while the interviewer is selling a job

- сandidates need to be invited for interview, and informed of the date, time and venue for the interview, including any supplementary arrangements for preliminary talks, tours of the business or tests

- all candidates may be interviewed on the same day, and possibly participate in preliminary group sessions, or interviewees may be called over a series of days

Interviews may be conducted by one person, two or more together, or a series of people one after another.

The outcome of an interview may be that the employer may or may not offer the job, and that the applicant may or may not accept any post offered.
