8. London School of Economics and Political Science

The London School of Economics and Political Science commonly referred to as the London School of Economics or LSE, is a specialist constituent college of the University of London in London, England. Founded in 1895, the School joined the federal University of London in 1900 as the Faculty of Economics. The Motto of the School is “To Understand the Causes of Things”. Today, the LSE remains a specialist single-faculty constituent college of the University with 8,700 full-time students. It describes itself as the world’s leading social science institution for teaching and research. The school is among the world’s most selective universities, and is consistently placed among the top higher education institutions in the world in university rankings. The school has produced many notable alumni in the fields of politics and economics, including several Nobel laureates and heads of state.

The Open University is one development in education in which Britain can claim to have led the world. It was started in 1969 and allows people who do not have the opportunity to be ordinary “students” to study for a degree. Its courses are taught through television, radio and specially written course books. Its students work with tutors, to whom they send their written work and with whom they then discuss it, either at meetings or through correspondence. In the summer, they have to attend short residential courses of about a week.

9. International Education

International education deals with the need to place a great emphasis on understanding other nations and cultures. In an era of rapid change people must recognize that the oceans no longer protect people from the problems and realities of the rest of the world.

There are a lot of mistakes in political and economic life because people know very little about friends and foes, competitors and customers, their lands, culture, people, resources.

Our planet is small, and problems sooner or later affect everybody. These problems cannot be ignored. We inhabit a ‘global village’.

Thus, innovative learning in today’s schools must be widely international if the country is to participate effectively in the world. The state’s education system should encourage students to “explore scientific questions” and “respond appropriately and respectfully to differences of opinion about scientific subjects”.

Demand for higher education is booming around the world. Foreign students are welcome everywhere.
