KEEPING THE FACTORY CLEAN

As

society has become more environmentally conscious the need for controlling waste and production byproducts has greatly increased. Dust also creates wear and tear on the machinery.

Up until recently, most factories utilized compressed air and sweeping to remove dust and fiber that are generated by high speed production flow lines. However, the use of compressed air to clean a machine results in a mere relocation1 of the dust and fiber. Furthermore this method significantly increases the dust level in the factory air. The engineers are now looking for an option2 to compressed air "blow down". To clean the factory a central vacuum system has been used for many years. The production area4 is covered with a system of vacuum piping5 located in some points as it is required. These points are connected to a primary collector tank6. The conveying air passes through this tank and on to a filter and finally a vacuum producer. The system is automatic and is controlled by a single electrical panel.

Most systems will have 50 or more hose7 stations. There will be also floor sweep stations for large volumes of waste. Various attachments8 permit efficient cleaning of production machines, production floors, shop and office areas. The high speed production of some textile products generates much waste. A fibrous dust generated in such processes has to be subjected9 to collection. This is usually done with purpose-designed hoods10, slots, plenum ventilation11 connected to a fan12 filter system.

An efficiently located nozzle with a vacuum hose collects the textile waste and conveys it to a collection point via a blower13. Small individual collectors can be located at a remote point. This waste is normally directed to an automatic horizontal baler14 where it is compacted into 300-400 pound bales. The bales can be sold to scrap dealers. Fiber waste is used as filler material15 for acoustical padding16, pillows, toys or quilts.

Now many machines are fitted with automatic pneumatic waste collection systems. And it is very important. To manage waste is to manage your profit. Clean up your factory, collect your waste. Do it because this is the only planet that we have.

Текст 2. COMPUTERS

It is difficult now to imagine any branch of our life without a computer. Computers revolutionized science, industry, education, medicine bank and finance operations, designing and printing. Computers and "intelligent" production machines can be tireless performers1. They are of great help in adjusting process variables2. They can free operators from repetitive and boring assignments. Great possibilities are offered by computers. They found application in the textile and light industry as well.

As the computer technology was new for the textile production at first the computers were used only for data collection and analysis But as the industry was gaining more and more experience4 with these systems the computer took a more active role in all process and production areas In dyeing industry for example, there is a tendency to apply computers for colour matching. Indeed, a computer minimizes errors in matching colours , he rapid operational speed of a computer enables specialists to get all possible combinations of colours and to obtain the right formulas of a dyestuff.

REMOTE DIAGNOSTICS AND INTERNET

What to do when things go wrong in any industrial process?

Processing machines and their control systems become increasingly complex. Manufacturers are interested in remote1 diagnostics because they wish to simplify and enhance the facility of service and repair.

The technology used on the latest machinery is relatively reliable. But still the machinery may fail2 in operation. A common reason for system failures is the human factor. That's why careful training of the operators is needed to avoid the operator error. Manufacturers and purchasers of equipment recognize that time spent for training operators can save hours of heartache and lost production3.

While today's equipment is designed to be as simple as possible for an operator, but it can be extremely complex in its entirety". So the training of the company's technicians can be expensive and time consuming5.

Remote diagnostics allows the equipment manufacturers to analyze machine settings and service data in order to quickly diagnose problems and advise appropriate solutions6. A modem is incorporated within the control system and the personnel can get data from the central processor. This is an important and cost-effective method of servicing. It can be carried out virtually anywhere within reach of a telephone line. The process can also be used to deliver and install software updates.

Remote diagnostics is only one area where the recent revolution in communications has influenced textile processing. Direct communications via modem are now used to monitor and control processing conditions from afar.

No longer the term "remote control" is associated with changing the TV channels. A company is able to remotely monitor and control production processes of its plants even abroad. Textile processors can already get a wide range of information via the internet. The internet ensures access7 to the technical databasis of suppliers, so that users and

Q

potential users can obtain technical specifications of chemicals, finishes and dyestuffs as well as design related information and even colour swatches9.

One of the key advantages of this type of resource is the ability to quickly ascertain technical matches10, for example, which dyestuffs are suitable for which applications and end uses. Training is another key area where the internet offers real potential and the ability to search databasis at any time for specific information relating to problems, know-how or advice.

Databasis access offers a quick and cost-effective way of checking technical standards and may lead to more rapid standardization on aspects such as product labeling.
