Контрольная работа № 1

Задание № 1.

Выполнить следующие лексико-грамматические упражнения:

  1. Translate the sentences into English.

  1. Он опять смотрит телевизор. По-моему, он смотрит его с самого утра.

  2. Я так рада, что мы наконец закончили эту работу.

  3. Жаль, что ты не видела этот фильм. Он очень смешной.

  4. Я ничего там не вижу.

  5. Кто это стоит у окна? Я не знаю эту женщину.

  1. Study the following sentences, translate them into Russian. Define the tense forms.

  1. When I switched on the light I saw a strange scene.

  2. Hardly had the sun risen when the expedition started.

  3. She had finished cooking by 6 o’clock.

  4. He had been writing poetry for some years before his first collection of poems came out.

  5. After she had cried she felt better.

  1. Supply the required future tense instead of the infinitives in brackets.

  1. I hope you (not forget) all this by tomorrow.

  2. He (be) a pensioner for ten years by next spring.

  3. Ask him when he (finish) packing.

  4. The doctor (examine) his last patient at this time tomorrow.

  5. The children (sleep) for two hours by the time the parents come home.

  1. Put into the Passive, mind the verbs with prepositions and post – verbal adverbs. Make the word in italics the subject of the passive construction.

  1. I’m sure everybody will agree upon this plan.

  2. She will never put up with poverty.

  3. His teachers have always looked upon him as a very promising student.

  4. I haven’t seen much of him since his arrival.

  5. He often refers to your words.

  1. Supply the required form (Active or Passive) of the verb in brackets.

  4. I wrote to her at the library to ask her if she could see me the following Monday at six.

  5. He asked the girl what she would have for lunch.

  1. Put the following into Indirect Speech.

  1. “Don’t bother grown-ups, Taffy,” said her father.

  2. She cried, “I shall never show you a young lady’s letter againt.”

  3. He asked, “Dear Madam, where can I find you?”

  4. “Can he type and write shorthand?” Pearl asked the Duchess.

  5. At last the Dodo said, “Everybody has won, and all must have prizes.”

  1. Convert the text into reported speech (in the past tense). Begin with “The teacher said that…”

Here is your homework. You must read Text Two on page 64. But you needn’t write the text down. You can take it from the English study. Besides you are to do exercise 10 in writing and translate a passage from home reading. Only you mustn’t translate it word for word. You must give a literary translation. Now, the lesson is over. You may have a break.

  1. Translate the sentences into English.

Работа с текстом.

  1. Read the text and translate it literary.

  2. Write out 15-20 new expressions from the text and learn them.

  3. Make up 8 questions to the text (2 of each type) and be ready to answer them.

  4. Make up the plan of the text.

  5. Retell the text.

Задание № 3.

Домашнее чтение.

  1. Read the book.

  2. Write out about 200 new expressions. Give them Russian equivalents and learn by heart.

  3. Describe the main personages of the book (in a written form).

  4. Make up the Summary of the book.

  5. Be ready to retell and discuss any part of the book.

Задание № 4.

Устная тема.

  1. Compose the following topics (2000-2500 symbols): “Leisure”, “Man and the Movies”, “English Schooling”, “Bringing up Children”, “Painting”, “Feelings and Emotions”, “Talking about People”, “Man and Nature”, “Higher Education in the USA”, “Courts and Trial”, “Books and Reading”.

  2. Be ready to retell and discuss them.
