Economy of Murmansk Region

Murmansk region is one of the largest and most developed areas of the European North of Russia. It is situated on the Kola Peninsula washed by the Barents sea and the White sea. The population is about 600 thousand people.

The region is rich in mineral resources such as apatite, iron, copper, mica and others. The Barents Sea is rich in the deposits of gas. The basis of the economy is mining industrial complex and electric power production. The plants are equipped with modern machines and technology. The apatite concentrate goes for the production of fertilizer in our country and abroad.

The region has a developed net of all kinds of transport including airlines, railroads, sea ways and automobile roads. Murmansk sea port is the largest ice-free port in the north.

Agricultural sector provides the population with milk, meat, eggs, chicken and some vegetables.
