Текст для устной работы Higher Education.

The history of higher education in Russia goes back to 1755 when the first University was founded in Moscow on the initiative of M.V. Lomonosov and in accordance with his plan. Later, universities were opened in many other big cities of the country.

Many people in our country can get education. There are academies and universities in all cities and towns of our country. Higher education is partly free of charge nowdays. To enter an academy or university people have to take entrance examinations. They are rather difficult .Students have to listen to the lectures and to take part in the seminars. If they miss them they can fail at the exams. At the end of each term they have to take credit tests and exams. They submit term papers in the end of each academic year. Most students attend full-time departments. They study at the day time.

Others study in the evening they combine work and study. These are part time student, We are external students. We get postal tuition (correspondent course).

II. Перепишите предложения, поставив глаголы, данные в скобках, в соответствующем времени.

III. Перепишите предложения, выбирая подходящую по смыслу форму глагола.

  1. At the Institute the students (teach, are taught) many different subjects.

  2. Next year a new school (build, will be built) near our house.

  3. At the plant the young workers (train, are trained) to use the new equipment.

  4. Dictionaries (use, are used) at the translation test.

  5. The experiment (finish, was finished) yesterday.

IV. Сравните следующие пары предложений и переведите их на русский язык.

  2. He told them an interesting story. He was told an interesting story.

  3. I will give you a book. I will be given a book.

  4. She always does her homework in the evening. She is doing her homework.

  5. She did her homework well yesterday. She was doing her homework when we came to see her.

  6. She is tired; she will do her homework tomorrow. She will be doing her homework all the evening tomorrow.

V. Переведите следующие предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на время и залог сказуемого.

  2. The staff of the laboratory is finishing the work on the apparatus.

  1. a) The plans are usually discussed at the beginning of the year.

b) They are discussing the plans of the next year.

VI. Переведите предложения и подчеркните модальные глаголы и их эквиваленты.

  1. I couldn't read a word in English a year ago.

  2. Now I can read some short letters in English.

  3. I hope that I'll be able to read and understand various letters and documents.

  4. This newspaper may be very useful to those who are learning English language.

  5. You must study much if you want to pass the examination well.
