The currency in GB is Pound of Sterling. One pound is 100 pence. 1 and 2 pence coins are copper (медные), other coins (5 pence, 10 pence, 20 pence and 50 pence) are silver. Paper money comes in 5 pound (blue), 10 pounds (orange), 20 pounds (purple) and 50 pounds (pink).

The Central Bank in the UK is the Bank of England. It belongs to the Government, that issues money. The money printing process is very complicated; banknotes are re0issued very 10-15 years. The British Money has complex paper and color combinations; it is very hard to copy it.

The authorities do not recommend tourists to have a lot of cash. You should buy sterling travelers’ checks. If they are lost or stolen, you can replace them. Many shops accept (принимают) these checks.

All banks open from 9.30 a.m. till 3.30 p.m from Monday till Friday. Most banks do not work on Saturdays and all are closed on Sundays and public Holidays. If you want to exchange money, banks offer best exchange rates, but you will pay some commission, different in many banks. If you want to exchange money, you must have your passport. In the bank you can open a deposit account, pay all bills and exchange your money.
