ABOUT MYSELF. MY FAMILY

Типы вопросительных предложений. Имя существительное. Словообразование

1.Answer the questions before you read the text:

1.How old are you?

2.What do you look like?

3.What are you like?

4.Have you got a hobby?

5.What are your favourite activities?

6.Do you like spending time with your friends?

2. Read and translate the text:

Hello, everyone! It is not an easy thing to speak about myself as it is hard to have a look at yourself from aside, but at the same time who knows you better than you yourself do?

My name’s Ann. I am a girl of seventeen. When I look at myself in the mirror I see a blond girl with long straight hair, dark eyes. As to my appearance I'm rather tall and slim. My friends say that I am pretty. I think that I'm rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my temper and become either angry or sad. I like staying alone and sometimes I retreat into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means I understand humour and appreciate it.

I like to study because knowledge is useful. I'm fond of reading as it gives not only knowledge, but also wonderful moments of joy and pleasure. Sometimes I play different sport games for health and pleasure. I usually play such games as volleyball, basketball, tennis, and sometimes football.

I was born on the 24th of April 2007 in the city of Sochi where I live together with my parents and my younger sister. I was born into a family of a teacher and a doctor. I was sent to a kindergarten at the age of three as both my parents were working. I went to school at the age of six. There I got a proper training in such subjects as English, Russian and French, literature, science and many others. I usually did a lot of home preparation for them and I liked everything I was doing in them. I really tried hard in them. But despite my efforts I was not good at Math.

When I was seven, my parents sent me to a musical school which I successfully finished. It turned out to be the best school in our town. So as you understand I am a rather good pianist. I can play not only classical music but modern songs too.

School for me was not only lessons and learning, I had a lot of friends there. We organized extra class activities such as parties and other social activities. I actively participated in most of them.

5

I am sociable, so I have got a lot of friends among my schoolmates. As for me, I appreciate people's honesty, kindness, sense of justice and intelligence. I don't like when people are rude and aggressive.

At times I feel dissatisfied with myself, especially when I fail to do something or can't do things the way they should be done. At the same time, I think I am hard-working and diligent. My greatest problem at school was talking in front of the class. I always blushed.

In June I passed my final exams at school and after a farewell party at the end of June I said goodbye to my teachers who were very well-educated people with broad outlook and deep knowledge of the subjects. They encouraged me in my desire of choosing my future career. School meant a lot to me and it wasn't just learning and studying. I made good friends there and met many interesting people. I faced a new life without school with a mixed feeling of sadness and joy.

I asked myself a lot of times what I wanted to be when I left school. A few years ago, it was difficult to give a definite answer. As years passed, I changed my mind several times. But it was only in my last year at school that I finally made up my mind what profession I would most like to have in the future. I realized that my strongest desire was to help people with their speech problems. So I have chosen to become a speech therapist.

As you see my biography isn’t very long yet. But I’m only at the start of it so I hope to live long happy life and be useful to people.

live with my family. But most of my groupmates came from other cities and they have to rent a flat or a room.

Now let me describe my usual working day. My classes begin at 8.00 but sometimes later, depends on the schedule. I like when they begin later because I can stay in bed longer. But when I have to be at university for the first lesson I get up at 6.30. Usually my mum wakes me up and my working day begins. I take a shower and then have breakfast which my mum cooks. I like sandwiches or toasts with coffee. After that I get dressed, brush my hair and put on a light make-up. I love to listen to music while getting ready for university.

I leave home at about 7.30 as I live not far from it. I like walking to university and listening to music in my earphones. It encourages me well for the whole day.

My classes usually end at 3 p.m. but sometimes earlier. So my lunch depends on the schedule. If my classes end at 1 p.m., I go home and have lunch there. If they end at 3 p.m., I go to the canteen during the long break. I like food there, it’s very delicious. Also, it’s a good opportunity to chat with my groupmates.

Usually I don’t miss classes because I want to pass my exams successfully. But sometimes I do, especially if the weather is nice and the classes are boring.

Sometimes I have to stay at the University till 5 or even 6 p.m. in the evening because I go to the library to get ready for my practical classes. As a rule I have no free time during the week day. So by the end of the week I’m very tired.

At about 7 p.m. our family gathers at home. We have dinner and share the news. After dinner I help my mum with the dishes, then everyone goes to their room to have a rest. My father watches the news on TV, my mum watches her favourite serials on ipad. My sister chats with her friends or surfs the Net. As for me, I like reading. It doesn’t matter what genre it is. The plot is the most important for me. But novels are in priority of course. Sometimes I go to the park with my sister or visit my friends.

At about 11 p.m. I go to bed. I like listening to some relaxing music and sometimes when I fall asleep while listening, my mum takes away my earphones and says Good night!
