Text 2. Management of a global company

Management of a multinational company is not that simple because of different corporate objectives, policies and practices, very often because of the conflict between globaliz tion and localization, which has even led to the invention of the word“glocalization” and which means that companies that want to be successful in foreign markets have to be aware of the local characteristics that affect the business to be done.

The most obvious differences between management cultures are the ones between the Protestant cultures (Canada, the USA, Britain, Germany, Scandinavia) and the Latin-Asian cultures (Latin cultures of Southern Europe and South America and Asian countries).

The former are mostly individualist cultures with matrix management structures, with management mostly based on analysis, rationality, logic and systems. Here it is necessary to achieve a certain status, which does not depend on the age or how long the person has worked in the company. Seniority is not important.

In Latin and Asian cultures management is based largely on personal relations, intuition, emotion, sensitivity. This culture is considered to becollectivist culture where rewards and promotions are expected to come with age and experience.
