Предполагается, что учебное пособие «English guide for Economists and Managers» поможет студентам в результативном освоении дисциплины на данном этапе обучения: знать базовую лексику, представляющую стиль делового общения в профессиональной сфере, правила наиболее употребительной грамматики и основные грамматические явления, характерные для устной и письменной речи в ситуациях общения, основные приемы аннотирования, реферирования и перевода литературы на профессиональные темы; уметь читать и обрабатывать деловую коммуникацию, и профессиональ- но-ориентированную информацию на иностранном языке; владеть навыками восприятия и обработки иноязычной информации в сфере профессионального общения по пройденным темам.

Данная структура предоставления языкового материала должна не только помочь студентам лучше усвоить навыки устной, письменной речи и активно владеть лексикой по специальности, но и активизировать учебную деятельность, поддерживать и повышать положительную мотивацию при изучении иностранного языка.

KUZSTU: ITS STRUCTURE, INSTITUTES

AND HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT

Starting up

Before studying the material of Unit I, read and memorize the definitions of the key terms of this unit.

Higher education:

–tertiary education leading to award of an academic degree. It is also called post-secondary education, third-level or tertiary education, is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after completion of secondary education.

Science:

–(from the Latin word scientia, meaning «knowledge») is a systematic

enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.

Engineering:

–the use of scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings.

University:

–an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research, which awards academic degrees in various academic disciplines.

Vocabulary

T. F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University (KuzSTU for short) is one of the largest universities in Western Siberia.

T. F. Kuzbass State Technical University prepares professional engineering and management staff for almost all branches of industry of Kuzbass and Russia. KuzSTU carries out fundamental, applied and development work in the following areas: geomechanics; coal chemistry; nanotechnology; geology; exploration and technology for environmentally safe development of deposits and mining; geodesy; land management; ecology; technology for deep processing of coal; labor protection and industrial safety (primarily in mining and chemistry); engineering; modeling of technological and physical processes; economics and management in the basic industries of Kuzbass.

The mission of the University is to strengthen and develop the human potential of the leading coal region of Russia by consolidating the resources and capabilities of the University with the key enterprises of the region in educational, scientific, innovative and international activities. The history of the T. F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University. On August 30, 1950, the Kemerovo Mining Institute (KMI) was founded on the basis of the Kemerovo Mining and Construction Technical School. On July 29, 1965, KMI was transformed into the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute (KuzPI). On November 22, 1993, KuzPI assumed a title of Kuzbass State Technical University (KuzSTU). On May 25, 2011, Kuzbass State Technical University was renamed to

T.F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University. There are 8 institutes in the KuzSTU:
