-Is the house convenient to live in?

-We’ve got all the conveniences: electricity, gas, heating, water supply and a telephone.

-This suburb is a nice place to rest, but how do you get to your work in the city?

-That’s not a problem. I go by car and it takes me about 45 minutes. I drive fast.

Dialogue 3

-I am a homemaker. “Home-keeping hearts are the happiest”. But sometimes doing chores gets on my nerves.

-To clean, wash up, vacuum and mend can bother everyone. But to take care of pot plants and to cook are pleasant chores.

-They are, and of course, all these household appliances help and save a lot of time.

-Oh, I see. You are too creative and energetic person to do only home business. How long haven’t you been working?

-I’m afraid I haven’t been working for five years. It’s high time to change my life style.

Bob’s Flat in London

Hello again! I am Bob. You have already learnt some things about my home in Arch Cape, Oregon. Now I am going to describe my apartment in London. You know, I only study here and rent this flat as Londoners call an apartment.

So my flat is neither big nor small. I don’t need large space because I live alone and have no time to receive guests as often as I would like to. To be short, there is only one bedroom, a living room and a bathroom in my flat.

A small eat-in kitchen is separated from the other area by a hall. There is everything that makes my life easier. There is a gas stove, a fridge, a washing machine on the left. It’s good to have such appliances as a dishwasher and a food processor, but they are not so necessary for me. I can easily do without them. There are cups, saucers, plates, glasses in the cupboard on the wall opposite the fridge. On the special shelf, there is a mixer, a juicer, a toaster and a coffee pot. I can’t imagine my breakfasts without fresh juice, coffee and toast. On the right, there is a table with four chairs around it. I have recently bought them. I am not much of a cook, but I am able to prepare some exotic dishes from Chinese or Indian cuisine.

Further in the hall, there is only a mirror on the wall and a wardrobe. To be exact, it is a large stand-in closet. I hang up both my jackets, suits, shirts and so on.

In the living room, there isn’t much furniture, nothing superfluous. I have to combine here both a study and a recreation room. There is a desk with a computer on it. It is in front of the window, which faces a street. There is a sofa and a TV set opposite the window. The living room is carpeted with light grey carpeting and the window is covered with shades and cheery valances.

29

My bedroom is rather small. It is also carpeted. The walls are painted light green. There is a bed, a lamp and an arm-chair in it.

I think my flat is cozy and comfortable. I’ve been living here for two years and I like it very much.

I am also lucky to have my neighbors. Melanie is also a student. She works as a waitress at her spare time, so I seldom meet her. The second neighbor of mine is Sabir. He is, on the contrary, a stay-at-home. This is a shy and modest boy who is in love with Melanie but never asks her for a date. Sometimes Sabir helps me mend my tape-recorder or microphone. He never disturbs me. A neighbor living in front of my door is Andy. He is friendly and laughs and smiles a lot. He is also funny and makes people laugh often. Once a month, Andy has a party. Then everyone has a lot of music, loud voices, smoke, stamping. But I am ready to stand all that, because rest of the days we live quietly.
