ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ

Учебное пособие “Business English by Degrees” предназначено для студентов I курса специальностей, связанных с коммерческой коммуникацией. Цель – обучение навыкам устной и письменной речи на начальном этапе делового общения на английском языке.

Учебное пособие состоит из 9 разделов, каждый из которых содержит основной и дополнительные тексты, диалоги, лексико-грамматические упражнения и словарь.

Традиционные, на первый взгляд, темы разделов (Personal Presentation, Working Day of a Businessman, Seeking for a Job, Khabarovsk Sights и др.)

дают возможность не только расширить имеющиеся знания, но позволяют приобрести соответствующий необходимый лексический минимум, закрепить его в разнообразных упражнениях и использовать в деловой коммуникации.

Например, задача вводной темы Personal Presentation не столько научить рассказать о себе и своей семье, сколько подготовить студента к умению показать себя, свои личные и профессиональные качества, навыки, склонности, семейное положение и а также умение написать резюме. Поэтому предложенные тексты описывают бизнесменов перспективных, подающих надежды или состоявшихся, добившихся многого за свою карьеру.

Остальные разделы также сочетают общую тематику с деловой направленностью заданий: заполнить анкету, составить финансовый отчет, программу приема зарубежного партнера, зарезервировать столик в ресторане или номер в гостинице и т.д. Для этого при работе над пособием были использованы: информация из отечественных и иностранных источников, образцы документов, периодические издания.

Упражнения представляют собой тренировочные задания для усвоения грамматических структур и для закрепления лексического материала одновременно. Основные упражнения – заполнение пропусков, подбор пар синонимов (антонимов), вопросно-ответные, перевод, ведение переговоров, передача содержания, высказывание собственного мнения и др. Их можно использовать как для совместной работы в аудитории, так и для самостоятельного выполнения.

При работе с пособием следует обратить внимание на написание и употребление слов и словосочетаний, которые даны в соответствии с американским и британским вариантами английского языка.

Последний раздел является сводным комплексом тестов и заданий для закрепления и проверки навыков, полученных в ходе работы. Статья, посвященная финансовой политике, дана для контроля понимания чтения.

Hello, everyone! It’s wonderful to meet you and I hope we’ll have nice time speaking and reading English. I ought to tell you about myself. I am six years your senior and I’ve been working for a year. Oh, it’s really awful to say, but time is flying. Yesterday I was a student like you and now I am an assistant manager at a large company. I like my job very much.

I am tall, and I have got blue eyes. As for my hair – well, I had shoulderlength straight dark hair until a year ago, but now it’s short. And I’ve got moustache because I’d like to look older. If you see me in my office I’ll be in a suit and a white shirt with a tie, but I usually wear jeans and a T-shirt. Any special features? I look like a movie star! – I’m kidding, of course! I am simply Harry George Smith. Call me Harry for short.

About Bob Howard

Hello! Let me introduce myself. My name is Robert Ron Howard, but call me Bob for short. I am not a Londoner, I only study here. My parents live in

Portland, Oregon. My mother’s a homemaker, and my father’s a businessman. I have got two sisters who are at school in Oregon. I’m not married.

I like meeting people, and I love talking to children. I enjoy swimming, going to the theatre, watching TV, playing the piano and listening to jazz and reggae music. I am also fond of cooking, especially Chinese and Indian food.

I don’t like hamburgers, and I hate eating junk food. I couldn’t call myself an experienced driver, but as I don’t stand traveling on the Underground I have bought an old car.

I get up at 7.30 and I go running. I have my breakfast at 8.30, and then I go to my college. Usually I spend here half a day, after that I go to the TV studios. I work from 5 o’clock to 9 p.m. I get home at about 11 p.m. because I often go to the theatre in the evening.

You see I’m just an ordinary person like you and them.

Ex. 7. Put the headings with the right paragraphs. Speak about yourself using the plan.

Ex. 10. Read and translate the dialogue, speak about the second person’s job. Do you also combine study with work?

-I help people find necessary books and information, reshelve the books and work on a computer.

-Does your work interfere with your study?

-Oh, no. It’s a part-time job!

Ex. 11. Find English equivalents to the following Russian words and word combinations.
