It is difficult to overestimate the importance of NATE Russia in the life of the professional community. The meeting and communication at such a large scientific and methodological forum allowed Russian teachers and their foreign colleagues to share experience, new ideas, to outline prospects for further cooperation which, undoubtedly, will contribute to increasing the effectiveness of teaching English in our country.

I would like to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to all the members of the conference organizing committee and, first of all, to our respected colleagues Viktoria V. Levchenko, Lyudmila A. Kozhevnikova and all members of the Modern Foreign Languages and Professional Communication Department, and also to students volunteers for a wellorganized and held conference (first of all thanks to splendid speakers and a high level of participants), and for the warm welcome. All members of the conference team were very friendly and always ready to help.

Wish you further creative success!

In 2019 the XXV International Conference of the National Association of Teachers of English in Russia (NATE - RUSSIA) will be held in the cultural capital of Russia the city of St. Petersburg.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRANCOPHONIE: RESULTS OF PARTICIPATION AND PROSPECTS FOR STUDYING THE FRENCH LANGUAGE

(Voronezh, April 5, 2018)

One of the most significant events of the spring was traditionally the celebration of the International Day of Francophonie, organized by the Regional Center for Franco-Russian Cooperation of Voronezh State University on the basis of the Voronezh Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.S. Nikitin and held on April 5, 2018.

Activities of the Regional Center for Franco-Russian Cooperation (RCFFRC), established in 1993 on the initiative of the cultural department of

the Embassy of France in Russia, are aimed at promoting the French language, science and culture, in particular, by organizing numerous French holidays dedicated to the annual international week of the Francophonie, as well as various competitions for the best song, poem or theatrical performance in French for university students and secondary school students.

So, this year the concert hall of the library named after I.S. Nikitin hosted the participants of the city student festival-competition, which was intended to determine the best performers of songs, poems, dances and theatrical performances in the French language among students from different universities of Voronezh.

As part of the sociocultural competence development of the students and the creative potential education of young people, the students of Voronezh State Technical University of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Economics, Management and Information Technologies and the Faculty of Engineering Systems and Constructions studying the French language, under the supervision of Ph.D., Associate Professor N.V. Merkulova, took part in the city student festival-competition, dedicated to the celebration of the International Day of Francophonie.

As the results of the participation in the students’ festival-competition, the following students of VSTU took prizes: Margarita S. Indolova (1-st year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, group B711) – 2-nd place in the nomination «Poem in French»; Olga V. Nesterkina (1-st year student of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Information Technologies, group B2711) – 2-nd place in the nomination «Dance»; Darya S. Avdeeva (1-st year student of the Faculty of Engineering Systems and Constructions, group B1211) – 3-d place in the nomination «Dance».

The laureates of the competition received gratitude for participating in the festival dedicated to the celebration of the International Day of Francophonie, as well as the DIPLOMAS from the Regional Center for Franco-Russian Cooperation of Voronezh State University, signed by the Director of the RCFFRC, Head of the French Philology Department at Voronezh State University Elena A. Alekseeva.

It should be noted that this year the winners of the Francophonie Day competition have confirmed the consistently high results of the students studying French as a foreign language. So, last year, on the basis of the April 6, 2017 event, the 2-nd year student of the Institute of Economics, Management and Information Technologies of the B2122 group Anastasia

A. Kostyleva, who took the first place in in the nomination «Dance», was awarded with the DIPLOMA from the Regional Center for Franco-Russian Cooperation of VSU.

In addition to the successful participation in the city competition on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Francophonie, last year the team of VSTU students studying French consisted of the following members: Artem N. Akatkin (1-st year student of the Institute of Civil Engineering, group B111), Tatyana S. Zheleznaya (1-st year student of the Institute of Architecture and Town Planning, group B011), Maria V. Rubtsova (1-st year student of the Institute of Civil Engineering, group B1511) under the supervision of Ph.D., Associate Professor N.V. Merkulova, won the second prize in the XVIII Olympiad of the French language among the students (or the cadets) of non-linguistic faculties of the universities of Voronezh, - was awarded with the DIPLOMA of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Scientific and Methodological Council for Foreign Languages, the Central Chernozem Zone Branch of the Department of Education and Youth Policy of the Voronezh region, Voronezh State Pedagogical University, April 23, 2017 (signed by the Head of the Department of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Voronezh region O.N. Mosolov).

Along with this, the students of VSTU who study French as a foreign language, traditionally actively participate in the annual students’ scientific session as a part of the subsection of the French language. The master’s students who study French have practical experience in preparing and publishing some scientific publications on the materials of the current Frenchlanguage press and Internet sources, in Russia and abroad (Maksimova I.V., Merkulova N.V. «Innovative Processes in Construction» // Perspective Developments of Science and Technology, November 7-15, 2016 (Poland, Przemysl); Stupak E.Yu., Merkulova N.V. «The Role of Culture in the Concept of a Creative City» // Materials for XII International Scientific and Practical Conference «Achievement of High School-2016», 17-25 November, 2016. (Bulgaria, Sofia)), etc.

In order to educate general cultural values, the students studying French willingly take part in the activities of the German language art-studio. Thus, for the active participation in the solemn concert program in German dedicated to national traditions and holidays in Germanspeaking countries: Christmas celebrations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc., which took place at the Foreign Languages Department of VSTU on December 21, 2017, the following students received gratitude for participation: О.V. Nesterkina (the Faculty of Economics, Management and Information Technologies, group B2711), D.S. Avdeeva, V.E. Lopatina, E.K Karaychev (the Faculty of Engineering Systems and Constructions, group B1211).

In order to optimize the teaching process of the French language in the technical university, several training manuals have been developed, including some tasks and assignments to apply relevant information technologies and the use of project methodology which is intended to promote the development of communicative and sociocultural competences of the students, as well as the development of self-education work skills in the study of a foreign language: Merkulova N.V. The French Language for Special Purposes: Textbook for students and master students of all specialties. Voronezh: Voronezh SUACE, 2014. 91 p. (ISBN 978-5-89040-484-8); Merkulova N.V. Let’s Speak French! / Parlons français !: Textbook for students and master students of all specialties. Voronezh: Voronezh SUACE, 2015. 110 p. (ISBN 978-5-89040- 531-9).

In prospect, it is provided to actively implement modern methodological developments in the process of teaching the French language to future specialists of engineering and technical profiles with the aim of communicating in a foreign language in the professional and research fields, as well as in everyday life communication and in all kinds of creative-and-applied spheres.

Multiple activities of the Regional Center for Franco-Russian Cooperation in organizing various events dedicated to the celebration of the International Days of Francophonie help
