3)Gaelic cultural events lacking their English equivalents and promoting Gaelic culture are semanticized through context or translation: Scottish music in Glasgow throughout the year, and some of the venues’ names even show their Gaelic connection – Òran Mór, which holds a variety of arts events in the west end, means ‘great melody of life’ in Gaelic. Or take in a ceilidh while you’re in the city – coming from the Gaelic for ‘gathering’ or ‘party’, we don’t need to tell you how fun these are! Ceòlas has grown from a weeklong music and dance school established in 1996 to become one of the Outer Hebrides’ leading Gaelic culture, heritage and arts organisations [2*].

These lexico-semantic groups possess the greatest cultural potential of Gaelicness. Despite the fact that the lexemes have counterparts, English or anglicized equivalents, the authors of the website texts use Gaelic foreign elements or Gaelic loan words to impart locality, as well as otherness and exoticism to the tourist text, which has an impact on the potential tourist’s choice. Non-verbal elements enhance the effect of otherness via photographs of objects and phenomena, colours, Gaelic graphics of letters.

Conclusion.

The official tourist website functions as an arena for marketing communication, as well as a tool for promoting local languages and cultures. The specificity of promoting a tourist product is conditioned by the genre requirements. The tourist website text is marketing by nature and multicode by structure because it makes wide use of natural language signs, as well as iconic and other signs, images, video, sounds.

The tourist website texts promoting the tourist destination with local autochtonous languages, contain foreign elements and exotic lexemes, thus creating the effect of the locality of the text and the destination, adding the local linguistic colouring to the discourse and authenticity to the destination. The use of foreign elements in the text also has didactic value which can be revealed through their choice, functions, ways of presentation and semantization. These parameters contribute to bridging the gap between cultures and overcoming cultural differences because the meaning of the foreign element is disclosed through explanation, definition, translation or contextualization. The authors of the text prefer exotic lexemes to their English equivalents in order to create the effect of locality. Lexical units (foreign elements and exotic lexemes) function as linguistic realia denoting unique and specific phenomena of the autochtonous culture and language. Their counterparts in English are anglicized lexemes or lacunas.

The research proved that the minority language plays a major role in promoting the destination with the tourist website in two aspects: using lexical realia and graphic peculiarities of the source language.

SCIENTIFIC OVERVIEW

FRENCH INSTITUTE’S FIFTH SUMMER SCHOOL IN RUSSIA

One of the most important and large-scale events of 2019 in the scientific and educational sphere of Russia is the Fifth all-Russian summer school, organized by the French Institute and the French Embassy on June 24-26 in Rostov-on-Don on the basis of the Southern Federal University. The French Alliance of the Rostov region also took part in the organization of the summer school. This annual event, which has already become a tradition, covers French language teachers working in secondary schools in various regions of Russia. It is held once a year at one of the universities of Russia, which are the partners of the Embassy of France and where French is taught as part of the training profile.

The summer school, which brought together at the southern Federal University more than a hundred Russian school teachers of French and three French teachers from the French Alliance of the Rostov region, is an event of a scientific and practical nature, in which its participants received advanced training under the program “Innovative educational technologies in teaching French”. This event is a seminar that examines and solves such problems in the field of pedagogical sciences as the theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages, French in particular.

In order to solve methodological and didactic problems in various aspects, the seminar consists of six thematic sections. In each of these sections classes are conducted by one Russian and one French teacher of French as a foreign language, who has extensive experience not only at home, but also abroad. Many of these teachers have academic degrees.

The first section of the seminar was entitled “Digital and multimedia technologies at the lessons of teachers of French as a foreign language who are not specially trained to use them”. Classes in this section were intended for those school teachers who need to acquire additional competencies in the use of these technologies at the lessons of French as a foreign language, allowing them to give an interactive and more creative character to these lessons.

The second section was under the title “The use of literary works at French lessons for foreigners”. Classes in this section were devoted to the method of introducing literary sources to the process of learning French, based on viewing video clips of filmed works of French fiction.

The didactic and methodological content of the third section was reflected in its title “Pedagogical foundations of the project in school education”. Classes in this section provided methodological support for French language teachers. It will facilitate their choice of the training project topic, and the determining of its content, which correlates with the educational program of teaching French at school.

The fourth section of the summer school seminar was called “Motivational fragments of lessons with the audience of adolescent and pre-adolescent age”. The content of classes in this section assumed the organization of such fragments of the lesson of French as a foreign language, which stimulated the most the interactivity of students of the corresponding age categories.

The fifth section was called “Preparing students for the unified state examination, the basic state examination, the academic competitions and the international diplomas qualification”. Classes in this section were aimed at methodological support for school teachers of French as a foreign language working in high schools, which will help them to prepare their students more effectively for the basic state examination, the unified state examination, the international exams in French at levels B1, B2, as well as for the French language academic competitions.

The specificity of the sixth section is reflected in its title “Improving the language: teaching at high levels (B2 and C1)”. Classes in this section were intended for high school teachers, as well as teachers working in schools that specialize in teaching French.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

TO THE MEMORY OF E. N. SOLOVOVA

12-13 December 2019, on the basis of The National Research University «Higher School of Economics» the International scientific and practical conference "Language Education: Traditions and the Modern Times" was held, dedicated to the memory of the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, the head of the HSE Department of Foreign Languages, Professor Elena Nikolaevna Solovova (6 November 1956 – 5 July 2019).

Elena Nikolaevna Solovova, without exaggeration, was the main expert in the methodology of teaching foreign languages in our country. Her professional interests were from teaching the foreign language at school and training foreign language teachers to postgraduate education.

The conference to the memory of E.N. Solovova was organized by her follower and her close friend, an expert at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Higher School of Economics, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor E.S. Markova.

At the opening ceremony the participants of the conference were greeted by Yaroslav Ivanovich Kuzminov, the rector of the Higher School of Economics, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Doctor of History, Professor M. A. Boytsov, as well as the present head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Ph.D., associate professor E. A. Kolesnikova. All of them noted the enormous contribution made by Elena Nikolaevna to the development of the Department of Foreign Languages and the formation of language education at the Higher School of Economics.

tific and pedagogical activity were covered in the reports. M. V. Verbitskaya spoke about the contribution of Elena Nikolaevna to the development of language testing in Russia. L.G. Kuzmina in her report made an analysis of the E.N. Solovova’s scientific and methodological heritage.

In term of the methodology of teaching a foreign language at school, E.N. Solovova developed programs for primary (1–4 forms) and secondary (5–9 forms) schools, and it was shown that the functions of the subject “Foreign Language” go far beyond the pragmatic mastery of school material and the development of communicative skills in speaking and writing in the foreign language, but the role of a foreign language in the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard for secondary school is the development of universal logical and communicative-cognitive actions of schoolchildren.

From the point of view of developing the methodology of teaching a foreign language at a high school, the contribution of E.N. Solovova to the development of new approaches to the training specialists in both linguistic and non-linguistic universities, the creation of modular level programs in ESP (English for special purposes), the development of additional educational programs and a mark-rating assessment system.

E.N. Solovova also developed the principles of professional training for a foreign language teacher, including the reflectivity of one’s own experience, autonomy, the modularity of training courses and programs, and their integrability. Much has been done to provide methodological training for a teacher of a foreign language at a high school, a course of lectures and a manual for practical studies on the methodology of teaching a foreign language, several video courses have been created. In terms of professional retraining and certification of teachers Elena Nikolaevna developed criteria and indicators of competence of a foreign language teacher, professional development stages in the teaching, scientific and methodological, expert, management and mentoring activities.

Elena Nikolaevna traveled a lot around the country, made methodical seminars for teachers, and paid a great attention to the activity of Russian National Association of Teachers of English.

Representatives of different regions, schools and universities of the country spoke at the round table “Elena Nikolaevna Solovova: she is always in our hearts” held after the Plenary meeting. There were warm memories about Elena Nikolaevna as a scientist, a head, a colleague, a friend.

The second day of the conference was devoted to workshops and the work of nine sections. The reports delivered in the sections were devoted to the development of ideas of Elena Nikolaevna and covered the problems of the theory and practice of teaching foreign languages and cultures from the point of view of traditions and modern times, training and retraining of teachers and lectures of a foreign language, language control in the system of uninterrupted language education.

The conference was a tribute to the memory to the remarkable scientist, teacher and person professor Elena Nikolaevna Solovova.

Requirements for formatting articles for the Scientific Journal “Modern linguistic and methodical-and-didactic researches”

The minimum volume of the paper is 8-10 pages in the A4 format (CD, Flash Card or e- mail), interval – 1, Times New Roman font, 12 pt., with the following margines: left – 25 mm, right, top and bottom – 20 mm. The electronic form should be prepared with MS Word 7.0 text editor or its later versions. The Universal Decimal Classification code number is put in the upper left corner of the first page in bold type, 12 pt. The next line in the center indicates the title of the article. The title of the article is printed in a 12-pt SEMI-SCRIPTABLE FONT, centered without indentation. Point at the end of the title is not set. Before and after the title - a space of 1 interval. The name of the author (authors) is indicated under the title.

Next in the table there should be information about the author of the article: place of work, academic title, position, contact e-mail.

Under the information about the author (authors), a brief abstract of an article with a volume of at least 16 lines is presented, 10 pt is normal, without indenting a paragraph, aligning to the width. The abstract should have the following structure: statement of the problem, results of the study, results conclusions.

After the annotation, the key words (8-10 words and phrases) that are relevant for the article are given.

The Scientific Journal site http://nllinguistica.ru/ presents all information from both the technical preparation of scientific articles to the press and the requirements for compiling "abstracts to scientific articles" and "selecting keywords."

The text should be typed in Times New Roman font, 12 pt., in one column. Justified alignment of the paragraph is used. The paragraph first line indentation is 1 cm. All paragraphs should only be installed automatically - done-in MS Word!

Numbering and labeling lists in the text, numbering sources in Referencess should only be done automatically in MS Word! Indent of the text from the number (token) - 0.5 cm

The examples cited in the articles should be marked out in italics, indented from left to 1 cm, width adjustment. Analyzed (key) words or phrases in the examples must be typed in a s p a r s e i n t e r v a l o f 2 p o i n t s , for example:

The use of bold type in the text of the article is NOT ALLOWED.

The word “Table” with its serial number is put flush right. The name of the table should be given in the next line (centered, without indentation and hyphenation), no dot at the end of the line. The table must be followed by 1 interval blank. If there is only one table in the paper, it is not numbered. The table should settle down on the center of page and not support its field.

Drawings can be created in graphic packages MS Vision or Corel DRAW (it is desirable, as it accelerates time of processing of the sent materials and acceptance on them of decisions), and also means of editor MS Word (but it considerably complicates processing of materials!). Drawings should be compactly inserted into the text, settled down on the center of page and not go beyond the field. In case of use for creation of drawings of editor MS Word before an insert in the text drawing should be necessarily grouped for the purpose of a non-admission of moving of separate elements of the drawing in the text! Each drawing should have the interlinear inscription typed by 11th font, with indented paragraph in 1сm, of the following format (example):

Numbers of sections and subsections should not contain spaces between the numbers and dots. For example:

2.1. → The name of the relevant subsection.

The references to the literary sources in the text are given in square brackets [1, p.5].

The list of the sources (in the order they are mentioned in the text) should be titled “References” and is to be given below the article. Next, you need to specify the list of Analyzed sources and the list of Dictionaries used. Sequence numbers of works in the Analyzed sources are denoted by [1 *] (one-star number). Order numbers of works in the Li Dictionaries used are denoted by [1 **] (a two-star number). If Analyzed sources are not listed in the article, then after Analyzed sources there is a list of Dictionaries used, the numbering of sources in which is made out as indicated above [1 **] (with a two-star number). Font 12 pt is normal. The bibliography should include at least 12 works cited, but not more than 15.

The References, the Analyzed sources and the Dictionaries used should be presented and in Latin (by a method of transliteration).

When registering lists of Internet sources, authors should indicate the title of the site (Internet platform), the email address of the site (URL) and the time of access to the site. For example:

The manuscripts for publication should be externally reviewed (signed and sealed in the place of the reviewer’s employment). Postgraduates` and applicants` manuscripts should also contain their research supervisor’s review.

The editorial board reserves the right to select and to edit the papers submitted for publication.

The references to the Scientific Journal should have the following format:

In order to prepare a version of the Journal in English, in addition to Russian, you need to submit your articles in two versions: in Russian and English. For the grammatical and stylistic correctness of the article in English, the responsibility is borne by the author himself.

The reception of the articles doesn’t guarantee their publication until they are accepted by the editorial board. The author will be informed about the editorial board decision in writing.

The manuscript will be published provided it meets the requirements mentioned above. In case the author doesn’t respond reviewer’s and editorial board members` comments,

the article will not be published.
