S u m m a r y

Stepan Lisitsyan, a representative of the elder generation of well-known Armenian scholars, has an important role in the history of Armenian culture. He has the priority of putting a whole range of questions of not only Armenian, but also Caucasian ethnography. The article examines those main problems of ethnography (based on his long-lasting field work), which were raised and studied by the well-known Armenian ethnographer. The issues of organization of Armenian ethnographical school are also examined.
