Broadband access and service.

The aim of this article is to show the reader information about three most popular coding schemes which used in telecommunication industry.

The research method is description.

The author admits that the problem of transmitting information correctly is one of the most complicated tasks in telecommunication field. There has never been a lack of coding schemes in the industry.

SONET has been developed for optical communication and defines a multiplexing scheme and transmission technology in synchronous optical hierarchy, interface parameters, formats, multiplexing methods and OAM&P for high speed transmission.

ATM is a high performance switching and multiplexing technology, with fixed length packets for different types of traffic. It offers multiplexing of multiple streams of traffic on each physical facility and its transmission to many different destinations.

Asymmetric digital subscriber line is a modem with sophisticated coding scheme that permits transition via copper pairs and reaches 6 Mbps speed over long distances. Author notes that most of ADSL applications function well with low upstream data rate.

The article covers the late 1980s when given standards were relevant.

The author’s conclusion is that it is important to develop new and more efficient coding schemes and technologies.
