Caught in His Own Tap

Once an English judge was preparing to go on a journey and his wife begged him to take her with him. Since one could travel only by carriage she could not go very often. The judge said: “I shall be very happy, dear, but I hope that you will not take any large hat boxes with you as there is no room for silly what-nots in the carriage.

Next morning they started. On the way the judge stretched his legs and his feet hit something under the seat. It was a hat box. He get angry, opened the carriage window and threw the box out.

The coachman stopped. “A box has fallen out by accident” he cried out. The servant got off to pick it up.

“Drive on! Drive on!” shouted the angry judge, “leave that thing in the mud!”

Next morning they reached the town where the judge was supposed to appear at a court of justice. He dressed himself in his judge’s robes and was ready, but he couldn’t find his wig.

“Now”, he said, “where is my wig? I cannot go to the court without it.”

“Your wig, sir?” said the servant, “but you threw it yourself out of the carriage window yesterday.”
