What are three different meanings of the word “business”?
The term "business" has at least three usages, depending on the scale - the singular usage means a particular organization; the generalized usage refers to a particular market sector (travel business); the broadest meaning covers all activity of suppliers of goods and services.
A business in the first meaning (also known as enterprise or firm) is an organization engaged in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers. The aim of businesses is to make profit and increase the wealth of their owners. Businesses may also be not-for-profit or state-owned.
