Хід уроку

WARM-UP

  1. Game "True or False"

Hold a flashcard facing you and tell pupils you are going to say a true or a false sentence.

Say a true or false sentence about the card in your hand, e.g. Hold a picture of a cake and say, “I am going to a party”.

If pupils think you are telling the truth, they call out “True!” If they don’t, they call out “False!” Alternatively, pupils can do one of two agreed actions.

Reveal the flashcard in your hand then ask a pupil to choose a flashcard without the other pupils seeing it.

Continue until all of the words have been practised.

PRESENTATION

  1. Look at the calendar and say what national and school holidays Ukrainian people / children are going to celebrate in May (p. 95, ex. 1).

Pre-reading: Ask pupils to look at the boxes and name the holidays of May.

Ask: “What holidays are we going to celebrate in May? What days are we going to celebrate them?”

Ask pupils to read the name of the holidays only and tell the dates of these holidays.

Then ask pupils to read an example and complete the answers.

  1. a) Listen and read the chant (p. 95, ex. 2).

Tell pupils to look at the picture. Ask what they see. Pupils give the answer.

Explain the wards ‘fancy parties’.

Ask: “Do you like fancy parties? What do children do at fancy parties?”

Tell pupils that they are going to read a chant.

While-reading: Read the words of the chant, pausing after each line.

Pupils repeat the lines chorally and individually.

Read the chant chorally faster and faster.

Post-reading: Ask pupils “Do you have fancy parties at school?”

b) Say what you are going to do at the fancy party. Use the words above.

Pupils read the words from the box.

Pupils read the pattern.

They make own sentences about fancy parties using the table written on the board.

talk and laugh

at the fancy party.

sing songs and dance

play games

PRACTICE

  1. Read and act out the dialogue at the party (p. 96, ex. 3).

Ask pupils to read the dialogue and act it out with their partners.

Ask pupils to read and practise their part in the story for a few minutes. Go round helping.

One or two pairs read or act out the dialogue.

  1. a) You are going to a fancy party tomorrow. Think of what character you are. Write notes (p. 97, ex. 4).

Pupils choose the character for a fancy party.

They complete the necessary information about him / her using the example.

Ask pupils to write

  • the character’s name

  • where he / she is from

  • his / her job

  • hobby

Ask pupils to describe their characters.

b) Work in pairs. Use your notes and change the highlighted words in the dialogue from Ex. 3. Act your dialogue out.

Read aloud the instruction and check that pupils understand what to do. Tell pupils they can read the dialogue from Ex. 3 and change the highlight­ed words in the dialogue into their notes.

If the task is rather difficult to understand, write this dialogue on the board with the gaps.

Pair work: Ask pupils to fill in the gaps using their notes.

Pupils make their own dialogues.

Monitor the activity and help where necessary. Pupils act out the dialogue in pairs using the information from the TV guide.

One or two pairs act out the dialogue, and so on.

READING AND WRITING

  1. Write about the most interesting character in your group notes (p. 97, ex. 5).

Pupils choose the best character in their group and write about him / her using the patterns.

Then pupils choose a pupil from their group to read about this character.

ENDING THE LESSON

  1. Game "Hangman"

Use the word ‘twenty’ to play this game.

Home work

Read (p. 95-96, ex. 2, 3).

Further practice

Use Workbook tasks at the lesson or at home.
