WARM-UP

  1. Game 'The Silent Dictation"

Hold up a picture of any kind of transport (or a real photo).

Pupils write down the word or the word with a preposition in their copybooks.

Ask two or three pupils to write the words on the board to check up the spelling.

PRESENTATION

  1. Listen and repeat (p. 74, ex. 1).

Teach and then drill the new words and word combinations using the pictures.

Read out the caption for each of the pictures in turn. Pupils listen and look at the pictures. Use board sketches, miming and gestures to check if pupils have understood the meaning of the new words.

Pupils take turns to read out the words. Help with pronunciation.

Go round helping.

Repeat with several different pupils.

Pre-reading: Ask “How do you think what this text is about?”

Ask pupils to read the whole text silently. Then read the story out loud.

Pronounce the words clearly.

Do choral and individual repetition of difficult words. Follow the same procedure three or four times.

Then pupils read the text themselves in a chain. Do choral and individual repetition if it is necessary again.

While-reading: Ask the questions, “Where are the Tames? Who is arriving?”

Post-reading: “What kinds of transport are there at the airports?”

b) Work in pairs. Take turns to ask and answer the questions.

Pair work: Ask pupils to read the questions.

Tell them that they are going to answer them. If they don’t know what to answer, tell pupils to say the phrase “I don’t know” and find the necessary information in the text.

Pupils read and answer the questions.

Monitor the activity and help where necessary.

If pupils don’t understand the meaning of some words, translate them into the native language.

Key: 1. She is at the airport. 2. She is waiting for her grandmother.

  1. They are happy to see Grandmother.

  1. Choose and say (p. 75, ex. 4).

Ask pupils to look at the sentences and finish them using the correct endings.

Pair work: Pupils read the sentences in silent to themselves or they work on them together in pairs. Pupils choose suitable ones. If it is necessary, translate the words into the native language.

Then they read the sentences aloud.

Ask pupils to read the sentences in a chain. Ask to translate difficult sentences into the native language.

Go round helping. You can ask pupils to write the sentences down.
