Coolant

Aall-seasonstypeofanti-freezeisinstalledinthecoolingsystemwhenthemotorcycleleavesthefactory.Itiscolouredblue,containsa50%solutionofethyleneglycol,andhasafreezingpointof-35°C

(-31°F).

Alwayschangethecoolantattheintervalsspecifiedinthescheduledmaintenancechart.

RadiatorandCoolingFan

Themotorcycleisfittedwithathermostaticallycontrolledelectricfansituatedbehindtheradiator.Thefancowlisfittedwithsixflapvalvestoaddcontroltotheairflowthroughtheradiator.Whenthemotorcycleisoperatedatspeedandthefanisoff,theflapvalvesopentoallowmoreairflowthroughtheradiator.Whenthefanoperateswiththemotorcyclestationaryoratslowspeed,thevalvesclosetoensurecoolairisdrawnthrough theradiatorfromthefrontofthemotorcycle.

Check theradiatorfinsforobstructionbyinsects,mud,leavesandgeneraldebris.Cleanoffanyobstructionsbyhandorwithastreamoflow-pressurewater.Ensuretheflapvalvesarenotblockedorobstructedandarefreetooperate.

RadiatorHoses

Regularlycheckallradiatorhosesandhoseclipsforcracks,leaksordeterioration.

CoolantLevelInspection

  1. Positionthemotorcycleonlevelgroundandinanuprightposition.

Note:

  • Thecoolantlevelwithintheexpansiontankcanbeinspected,withoutremovinganycovers,bylookingbetweenthefuel

tankandframeheadstockonthelefthandsideofthemotorcycle.Alwaysinspectthecoolantlevelwiththeenginecold.

1. Allowtheenginetocoolforatleast30minutes.

2.Removetheintakecoverasfollows:Releasethetwoscrewsfromitsfrontandrearedgesandthenslideitdownwardstoreleaseitfromtwosupportstudsinitscentre.

2.Thecoolantlevelmustbebetweenthe'MAX'(upperline)and'MIN'(lowerline)marksintheexpansiontank.

3.Ifthecoolantisbelowtheminimumlevel, orexceedsmaximum,thecoolantlevelmustbeadjusted.

  1. Removethecapfromtheexpansiontank,andaddcoolantmixturethroughthefilleropeninguntilthelevelreachesthe'MAX'mark.Refitthecap.

Note:

  • Ifthecoolantlevelisbeingcheckedbecausethecoolanthasoverheated,alsocheckthelevelintheradiatorandtop-upif

necessary.Inanemergency,wateralonecanbeaddedtothecoolingsystem.However,thecoolantmustbereturnedtothecorrectmixtureratioassoonaspossible.

4.Refit theintakecoverasfollows:Alignthecovertothecentrestudsandease itintoplace.Fitandtightenthetwoscrewsto9Nm.

Drainage

1. Removethelefthandradiatorcover.

  1. Radiatorcover

  2. Releasethesecurityscrewandremovethecoolantpressurecapontheradiator.

  1. Positionacontainerbeneaththewaterpumptocollectthedisplacedcoolant.

  2. Detachthebottomhosefromthewaterpumpandallowthecoolanttodrainout.

Note:

  • Tofacilitatefull drainout,alsoremovethedrainplugfromthewaterpump.
