  1. Pressthevalidationkeymarked·*'tofullyclosetheidlespeedcontrolsteppermotor.Afteraminimumof15seconds(thetoolwillnotallowfurtheractionstotakeplaceduringthisperiod),pressthevalidationkeyagaintoreturntheECMtonormalcontrol.

  2. TurntheignitiontotheOFFposition.

  3. Disconnectthebattery,negative(black)leadfirst.

  4. Checkandadjustthethrottlecablesettingsasdescribedonpage11.119).

  1. Supportthetank,removeandstowthetankprop,thenlowerthetanktotheframeandsecureitasdescribedonpage11.99.

  2. Refittheintakecoverasdescribedonpage

  1. Reconnectthebattery,positive(red)leadfirst.

  2. Refittherider'sseat.

EngineManagementAdaption

GeneralInformation

Theenginemanagementsystemfittedtothismodelisadaptive.Thismeansthatthesystemisabletolearnaboutneworchangingoperatingconditionsandcontinuouslyadaptitselfwithoutneedingtoconstantlymakemajoradjustmentsfromafixedbaselinesetting.

Adaptivechangescanbecomenecessarybecauseofchangingriderbehavior,changesintheregion inwhichthebikeisoperated(i.e.operationathighaltitudewhereitwaspreviouslyusedatsealevel)orbecauseanewpartmayhavebeenfittedwhichhasslightlydifferentcharacteristicstotheoldpart.Alladaptivechangesareautomaticandrequirenointerventionbyrideror dealer.

  1. Ensuretheengineiscold.

  2. WITHOUTTOUCHINGTHETHROTTLE,starttheengineand allowittowarmupuntilthecoolingfancomeson.

  3. Leavetheenginetoidleforafurther12minutes.Note:

    • Asanalternativetotheaboveprocess,connectthediagnostictool,scrolltoADJUSTTUNEandselectRESETADAPTION$.Thiswillforceafastadaptionroutinetotakeplaceinaround5seconds.Forthistohappen,theengineMUSTberunning,itmustbeatnormaloperatingtemperatureandinclosedloopcontrolmode.Underanyotherconditionsfastadaptionwillnottakeplaceandmaycausedefaultvaluestobeloaded,whichmaythenrequireanormal12minuteadaptionroutinetoberun.

FaultIndications

If'range' figuresat100%areseen, thentheadjustedhasreachedmaximumindicatingamechanicalfaultexistsonthemotorcycle.Thiscan beduetoanumberoffaultsbutthemostlikelycauseswillbelow/high fuelpressure,faultyinjectorsorairleaksatthethrottlebodiesorairbox.

Inthesecircumstances,locateandrectifythefault,usetheRESETADAPTIONSfacilityonthediagnostictool (foundundertheadjusttunemenu)andbegintheadaptionprocessdescribedabove.

Note:

      • Inthefollowingprocedures,thetermcatalystboxreferstotherectangularchambertowhichthesilencersareattached.Inmanycountries,catalyticconvertersarefittedinsidethiscomponent.However,incertaincountries(dependingontheirexhaustemissionregulation)nocatalystwillbefitted.

      • Alwaysnotethepositionandorientationofexhaustclampspriortoreleasingthem,andreturnthemtothenotedpositionandorientationonassembly.
