ElectricalPrecautions
Thefollowingguidelinesareintendedtoensurethesafetyoftheoperatorwhilstpreventingdamagetotheelectricalandelectroniccomponentsfittedtothemotorcycle.Wherenecessary,specificprecautionsaredetailedintherelevantsectionsofthismanualwhichshouldbereferredtopriortocommencingrepairoperations.
Equipment-Priortocommencinganytestprocedureonthemotorcycleensurethattherelevanttestequipmentisworkingcorrectlyandanyharnessorconnectorsareingoodcondition,inparticularmainsleadsandplugs.

Havingconfirmedacomponenttobefaulty,switchofftheignitionanddisconnectthebatterynegative(black)leadfirst.Removethecomponentandsupportthedisconnectedharness.Whenreplacingthecomponentkeepoilyhandsawayfromelectricalconnectionareasandpushconnectorshomeuntilanylockingmechanismbecomesfullyengaged.
Battery disconnecting
Beforedisconnectingthebattery,switchoffallelectricalequipment.
Alwaysensurethatbatteryleadsareroutedcorrectlyandare
notclosetoanypotentialchafingpoints.
HighVoltageCircuits-Wheneverdisconnectinglive
H.T.circuitsalwaysuseinsulatedpliers.Exercisecautionwhenmeasuringthevoltageonthecoilterminalswhiletheengineisrunning,highvoltagespikescanoccurontheseterminals.
ConnectorsandHarness-Theengineofamotorcycleisaparticularlyhostileenvironmentforelectricalcomponentsandconnectors.Alwaysensuretheseitemsaredryandoilfreebeforedisconnectingandconnectingtestequipment.Neverforce
Disciplines

Electricalwires
Alltheelectricalwiresareeithersingle-colourortwocolourand,withonlyafewexceptions,mustbeconnectedtowiresofthesamecolour.Onanyofthetwo-colourwires thereisagreateramountofonecolourandalesseramountofasecondcolour.Atwo-colourwireisidentifiedbyfirsttheprimarycolourandthenthesecondarycolour.Forexample,ayellowwirewiththinredstripesisreferredtoasa'yellow/red'wire;itwouldbe a·red/yellow'wireifthecolourswerereversedtomakeredthemaincolour.
Inspection
Disassembledpartsshouldbevisuallyinspectedandreplacedwithnewonesifthereareanysignsofthefollowing:
Abrasions,cracks,hardening,warping,bending,dents,scratches,colourchanges,deterioration,seizureordamageofanynature.

Servicedata
Theservicedatalistedinthismanualgivesdimensionsandspecificationsforbrandnew,originalparts.Whereitispermissibletoallowaparttoexceedthesefigures, thenthe servicelimitisgiven.
ThetermsofthemotorcyclewarrantywillbeinvalidatedbythefittingofotherthangenuineTriumphparts.
