LockingDevices

Alwaysreleaselockingtabsandfitnewlockingwashers,donotre-use lockingtabs.

Fittingasplitpin

Alwaysfitnewsplit-pinsofthecorrectsizefortheholeintheboltorstud.Donotslackenbackcastlenutswhenfittingsplitpin,exceptinthoserecommendedcaseswhenthisformspartofanadjustment.

Alwaysfitnewrollpinsofaninterferencefitinthehole.

Circlips,retainingrings

Replaceanycirclipsandretainingringsthatareremoved.Removalweakensanddeformscirclipscausingloosenessinthecirclipgroove.Wheninstallingcirclipsandretainingrings,takecaretocompressorexpandthemonlyenoughtoinstallthem.

AlwaysusethecorrectreplacementcirclipasrecommendedintheTriumphpartscatalogue.

Selflockingnuts

Self-lockingnutscanbere-used,providingresistancecanbefeltwhenthelockingportionpassesoverthethreadoftheboltorstud.

DONOTre-useself-lockingnutsincriticallocations,

e.g.suspensioncomponents.Alwaysusethecorrectreplacementself-lockingnut.

Encapsulatedbolt

Anencapsulatedboltcanbeidentifiedbyacoloured

^I sectionofthreadwhichistreatedwithalockingagent.

Unlessaspecifiedrepairprocedurestatesotherwise,encapsulatedboltscannotbereusedandMUSTbereplacedifdisturbedorremoved.

theoriginalsealingsurfacecannotbe completelyrestored.

Protectthesealfromanysurfacewhichcouldcausedamageoverwhichithastopasswhenbeingfitted.Use aprotectivesleeveortapetocovertherelevantsurfaceandavoidtouchingthesealinglip.

Lubricatethesealinglipswitharecommendedlubricant.Thiswillhelptopreventdamageininitialuse.Onduallippedseals,smeartheareabetweenthelipswithappropriategrease.

Whenpressinginasealwhichhasmanufacturer'smarks,pressinwiththemarksfacingout.

Sealsmustbepressedintoplaceusingasuitabledriver.Useofimpropertools willdamagetheseal.

Press

Apartinstalledusingapressordriver,suchasawheelbearing,shouldfirstbecoatedwithoilorgreaseonitsouterorinnercircumferencesothatitwilllocatesmoothly.

Ballbearing

Wheninstallingaballbearing,thebearingracewhichisaninterferencefitshouldbepushedbyasuitabledriver.Thispreventsseverestressordamagetotheloadcarryingcomponents.Pressaballbearinguntilittouchestheshoulderintheboreorontheshaft.

Pressordriftsealstothedepthofitshousing,withthesealinglipfacingthelubricanttoberetainedifthehousingisshouldered,orflushwiththefaceofthehousingwherenoshoulderisprovided.

FuelHandlingPrecautions

General

Thefollowinginformationprovidesbasicprecautionswhichmustbeobservedifpetrol(gasoline)istobehandledsafely.Italsooutlinesotherareasofriskwhichmustnotbeignored.Thisinformationisissuedforbasicguidanceonlyand,ifindoubt,appropriateenquiriesshouldbemadeofyourlocalFireOfficer.

Replaceanyoilorgreasesealsthatareremoved.Removalwillcausedamagetoanoilsealwhich,ifre­used,wouldcauseanoil leak.

Petrol-Gasoline

Whenpetrol(gasoline)evaporatesitproduces150timesitsownvolumeinvapourwhichwhendilutedwithairbecomesareadilyignitablemixture.Thevapourisheavierthanairandwillalwaysfalltothelowestlevel.Itcanreadilybedistributedthroughoutanyindoorenvironmentbyaircurrents,consequently,evenasmallspillageofpetrol(gasoline)ispotentiallyverydangerous.

Fueltankremoval

Fueltanksshouldhavea'PETROL(GASOLINE)VAPOUR'warninglabelattachedtothemassoonastheyareremovedfromthevehicle.Inallcases,theymustbestoredinasecured,markedarea.
