OilCircuit

GeneralDescription

TheRocketIllutilisesadrysumplubricationsystemwherebyapressurepumptakesoilfromanoiltankanddeliversoilunderpressuretotheengineandtransmission.Ascavengepumpcollectsoilfromthesumpandreturnsittotheoiltank.

Theoiltankisattachedtotheuppercrankcaseonthelefthandsideofthemotorcycle.Situatedwithinthelowercrankcase,thepressurepumpisgravityfedfromtheoiltankviaaninternaldrilling.Anoiltankdrainplugissituatedatthelowestpointinthedrilling,inthesumpitself.

ScavengeSystem

Pickupsfromthedouble-endedscavengepumpcollectoilfromthefrontandrearofthesumpandreturnittotheoiltank.Furtherdrain plugsarefittedtothefrontandrearofthesumptodrainresidualoilfromthesump.

PressureSystem

Fromthepressurepump,theoilisdeliveredalonganinternalpassage,pasttheoilpressurereliefvalve.Theoilpressurereliefvalverelievesexcessoilpressurebyallowingoiltoreturntothesump.Oncepasttheoilpressurereliefvalve,thepressurisedoilgoesthroughaone-wayvalvewhosepurposeistopreventtheoilinthetankfromdrainingintothelowercrankcasearea.

Fromtheone-wayvalve,theoilispassedthroughtheoilfilter.Filteredoilisfeddirectlytothemainoilgalleryfordistribution.Drillingsfromthemainoilgalleryfeedoiltothefourcrankshaftmainbearings.Therearealsothreepistonoiljets,locatedinthemainbearinghousingswhichlubricateandcoolthepistons.

Oilisalsofedfromthemainoilgallery,throughinternaldrillingsandpipes,tothetransmission.Thetransmissioninputshaftisbothdrilledthroughitsentirelengthandcross-drilled.Thecrossdrillingsprovideoildirectlytothegears,selectorforksandbearings.Oilflowingthroughthecentreoftheshaftexitsattheclutchend,toprovideoiltotheclutchassembly.Asprayjetfortheoutsideoftheclutchismounteddirectlytothepressurepump.Thetorsionaldampershaftisalsofedfromtheinputshaft.Thetorsionaldampershaftiscross-drilledtofeedthegears,bushesandotherrunningsurfaces.Aninternalpassagewaycarriesoiltotheoutputshaftbearingandthenontotheoutputshaft.Theoutputshaftisalsocross-drilledtocarryoiltothegears,selectorforksandbearings.

Thecylinderhead isfedviaaninternaldrillingcomingfromnumber4mainbearing.Within thecylinderhead,apassagewaythroughthecamladderfeedsoiltothecamshaftbearings,andspillsoilontothetappetbucketsandthevalves.Spilloilreturnsviathecamchainareatothesump,lubricatingthecamchainintheprocess.Alsolocatedoffthecylinderheadsupplyisanoiljetwhichcoolsthealternator.Thelowoilpressurewarningswitchislocatedattherearofthecylinderhead.
