Installation

1. Correctlyidentifytheinletandexhaustcamsaspreviouslydescribed.

2. Positionthecamshaftstothetwobanksofvalvesensuringthattheinletcamislocatedtotheinletvalvesandtheexhaustcamtotheexhaustvalves.

3. TurntheengineoversothatallthreepistonsareawayfromTDC(approximately15°ATDC).

4. Workingononecamatatime,locatethecamchainoverthecamshaftsprockets.

5. Easethecamchainawayfromthesprocketsthenturneachcamshaftuntilasmanylobesaspossiblearefacingawayfromthevalves.Allowthe chainto dropbackontothecams.

6. Lubricatethecambearingareasofthecamladderwitha50/50solutionofengineoilandmolybdenumdisulphidegrease.

7. Lubricatethethreadsofthecam ladderboltswithcleanengineoil.

8. Positionthecamladdertothecylinderhead,aligningbearingareaswithcamjournals.

9. Finger-tightenthe camladderboltsuntilthebolt'sunder-headareasareincontactwith thecamladder.

7. Inthesequenceshownbelowevenlyandprogressivelytightenthecamladderbolts,approximatelyhalfaturneach,untilthecamladderisinfullcontactwiththehead.

11. Inthesamesequence,torqueeachcamladderboltto10Nm.

12. Fitthecamchaintoppad.Tightenthetoppadfixingsto10Nm.

13. Easethecamchainawayfromthecams.Rotatethecrankshaftclockwise(asviewedfromthefront),untilNo.1cylinderisatTDC.No.1cylinderisatTDCwhen a'dot'markonthe crankgearisinalignmentwiththelineintheuppercrankcase.

   • Afterplacingeachcaminthetimingposition,itwillbenecessarytohaveanassistantholdthecamsinpositionuntiltoolT3880202isfitted.

   • Settheexhaustcamfirst,thentheinlet.

14.Easethecamchainawayfromthesprocketsandpositionthecamssothatthetimingmarksalignasshownbelow.Allowthecamchaintodropbackontoeachsprocketafterpositioningeachcam.

15.FittoolT3880202tolocationholesinthecamsprocketsasshowninthediagrambelow.Thiswillholdthecamsinthecorrecttimingpositionandpreventthemfromturningwhilethechaintensionerisfitted.

16. Refitandassemblethecamchaintensionerplunger,springandcentrenut(seepage3.7).

17. RemovetoolT3880202.

18. Turntheengineoveratleastfourtimes,thencheckthecamtimingagain.Resetasnecessary

19. Checkallvalveclearances(seepage3.14).Adjustasnecessarytogivethecorrectclearances.

20. Refitthecamcover(seepage3.6).

3.13

ValveClearances

Camshaft,valve,valve shimandvalveseatwearaffectthevalveclearances.Theeffectofthiswearistochangetheclearancebetweenthecamshaftandtheadjustment shim,causingenginenoiseand/orimproperrunning.Ifthevalveclearancesareincorrect,permanentdamagetocomponentsinthevalve-trainwilltakeplaceandengineperformancewillbeaffected.

Correctvalveclearancesareinthe rangegiven inthetablebelow.

Inlet	0.10to0.15mm
Exhaust	0.15to0.20mm
