Description

Theengineisfittedwithanaluminumalloycylinderhead,whichcarriesthecamshafts,valvesandsparkplugs.Thecylinderheadiscastasasingleentity,towhichvariouscomponentsarepermanentlyaddedaftermachining.

Asilent-runningcamchaindrivesthetwin-overheadcamshafts,whichrundirectlyinthecylinderheadwithoutadditionalbearings.Thechainistensionedbyaspring-loadeddevicefittedtothecylinderhead,andisguidedbytwoTeflon-coatedrubber-facedblades.Valveclearancesareadjustedbychangingvariablethicknessshimsthatsitbetweenthecamshaftandvalvetappetbucket.Thevalvesarefittedwithsingle,symmetricalvalvesprings.Boththetipand seatfaceofthevalvesarehardenedtogivealongservicelife.Duetoassemblymethodsused,thevalveseatsandvalveguides cannotbereplaced.

Oilissuppliedtothecylinderheadbyan internalpassagewayinsidetheengine.Onceitarrivesatthecylinderhead,itispassedthrougharestrictor,andisthendeliveredtothecamshaftbearingjournalsalonggroovesinthecamladder.Thecamshaftlobesaresplashfedbyoilcomingfromthecamshaftjournals.

9. Raisethecoverandmanoeuvreittowardstherighthandsideoftheengine,whereitcanberemoved.

8. Collectthesealfromthehead.

Removal

1. Removetherider'sseat(seepage17.9).

2. Disconnectthebattery,negative(black)leadfirst.

3. Raiseandpropthefueltank(seepage11.98).

4. Removetheintakeduct(seepage11.105)

togetherwithitsbracket.

5. Disconnectthesparkplugleadsfromthesparkplugsthenremovethecoilbracketswiththecoilsattached.

6. Removethebungsfromtheheadsofthecamcoverfixings.
