8. What were the aims of Progressive movement?

The goals of the Progressive Movement were to try to and solve problems within the American society that had evolved during the industrial growth that happened in the latter part of the 19th century, including fighting for the rights of the lower classes. The country had become prosperous and strong businesses developed; however, there was a large disparity between the wealthy and the poor. The Progressive Movement wanted to bring equality to the nation.

Developed the "Square Deal," a domestic program formed around three C's: conservation of natural resources, control of corporations, and consumer protection

Promoted the conservation movement and placed millions of acres of land under federal protection to preserve America's natural resources

Dissolved 44 monopolistic corporations and regulated railroad rates to protect the middle and working class

Passed the Meat Inspection Act and Pure Food and Drug Act to better regulate food production and labeling.

camps.

c) exterminator usually kills unwanted animals.

4) Magnify, magnification

  1. If one magnify a problem, s/he makes it more complex.

  2. These binoculars have xl0 magnification .
