Read the text and draw Caroline’s family tree.
A FRIENDLY FAMILY
Caroline
Porter has a large family. There are nine people in it. The oldest
member of her family is her grandmother. She is about 90. She lives
in the country. She’s fond of gardening and has got a lot of
beautiful flowers in her small garden.
Caroline’s mother and farther are architects. They are about 50 but look much younger. Caroline’s mother is called Debbie. She is a tall woman, slim and blonde, very clever and nice. Her husband’s name is Peter. Peter is shorter than his wife.
Debbie has a brother, Victor and a sister, Alice, who is a nurse in a hospital. Alice isn’t married and has no children. Victor is a policeman. He has two children-Bob and Polly. They are at primary school. Caroline’s cousins are very bright. They are both seven. They like to read a lot and listen to their grandmother’s stories. Victor’s wife, Mary, is a teacher.
All the members of the family are very friendly and hospitable. Their friends often come to see them.
2
Read the text and draw Laura’s family tree.
LAURA'S FAMILY
My name’s Laura and this is my family. My father’s name is David. He is forty-one years old and he works in a hospital. My mother’s name’s Sylvia. She’s forty years old and she works as a schoolteacher. My parents met twelve years ago. They went on a cruise with some friends and they fell in love there. My dad always says it was love at first sight! They got married in 2000. My older brother, Kevin, was born in 2001. He’s eleven years old now. Kevin isn’t a good student. He always forgets his homework and he often gets detention. He thinks he’s the best footballer in the world! I was born in 2003, so I’m nine. My grades aren’t so bad, but I don’t like maths. My favourite school subject is art and my dad says I’ve got a creative soul. I’ve got a younger brother. His name’s Samuel. He’s twelve months old and he’s very cheerful.
My dad’s parents are Joe and Miranda. Joe is my favourite granddad. He’s nice, but he’s totally deaf. Most of the time, he doesn’t know what I’m saying. That’s cool because we sometimes play tricks on him. We move our lips without making a sound and he says: “What? Speak up”. Grandma doesn’t like that. Grandma’s name is Miranda. She was a cook and she still bakes delicious cakes.
My mum’s parents are Rose and Homer. They are seventy-one years old. My grandmother used to be a nurse, and my granddad was a professional photographer. He still takes amazing pictures. He likes nature and he often goes bird watching.
3
Read the text and draw a family tree.
My
Family
My grandparents are coming to visit us from Calgary, Alberta. My father, Tom, is very happy because they are his parents, and he is glad that he will see them. We don't see them very often because Calgary is a long way from Toronto.
My grandparents have two sons: my father and my Uncle Bill. Uncle Bill has a wife -- Aunt Susan. They have a daughter who is my cousin. Her name’s Alice and she’s a lot older than I, so we do not have a lot in common. They also have a son who is the same age as me. Joe is my favorite cousin because we both like the same television shows and the same games.
I have two brothers and one sister. My brothers are both younger than I. They are twins, so they have the same birthday. My sister is one year older than I. People say that my sister and I look alike. We both have blonde hair and blue eyes.
My mother's parents live near us. They are the grandmother and grandfather who visit us often.
My mother does not have any brothers or sisters. She is an only child.
I like it when all my family is together. I don't have a lot of cousins like some people do, but I have fun with my relatives.
My uncle Bill often takes my cousin and me to the movies. I like to take my grandparents for walks so that they can see my school, and they can meet my friends. My parents talk to my brothers, my sister and I a lot. We are a very close-knit family. People who have close families are very lucky.
