Task 1. Monica is a German student of Law at a Law school in the USA. Read and translate the letter to her friend Peter.

Palo Alto, California

3rd October

Dear Peter,

How are you? I’m fine. I’m in Palo Alto, a small town in California. I’m at Stanford Law School. I’m a second-year student now. Our class is not very large. There are ten other students. They are all from different countries – Spain, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, Thailand, Chile and Russia. But they are all very nice and friendly.

Our teacher’s name is Daniel Scott. He is British and he is a very good teacher. He is a Doctor of Law and his specialization is Criminal Law. He is also quite good at Criminology.

My new address is at the top of the letter. I’m in a university campus, in a room with two other girls. Jane is American, she is from Ohio. She is 20 and she is a very nice girl. Mrs. Osaka is Japanese. She is from Tokyo and she is already 35!!! She is married and has two children. Her husband is a businessman. He is sometimes on a visit to the States. Mrs. Osaka is interested in International Law, but she is also good at Commercial Law. Jane and Mrs. Osaka are very friendly and helpful, but it isn’t always easy to understand them.

Palo Alto is a small town in California, and Stanford University is located southeast of San Francisco and adjacent to this town, on the San Francisco Peninsula. The weather is usually very good here – sunny and warm. There are a lot of interesting places here and the parks are beautiful. The Arizona Cactus Garden, Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden Centre, Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, and Fildi Center with breathtaking gardens are all near our campus. It is easy to get there on foot.

American food (fast food) is horrible, but Mexican cuisine is very delicious, but a bit spicy for me.
