London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It lies on the river Thames. The population of London is over 8 million people. The area is 1, 579 square kilometres.

London is more than two thousand years old. It was founded by the Romans many centuries ago. Today it is the United Kingdom’s main centre of population, commerce and finance, legal system, press and culture. London is the largest port in England.

London is one of the largest cities in the world

London is a city of contrasts. The West End is the richest part with its beautiful parks and lakes. The City is the financial heart of the London. There are many offices and banks here. The East End is a working class area. There are many factories, docks and dirty streets.

The main industry is tourism. You can see a lot of famous buildings: The Houses of Parliament, the Tower, Westminster Abbey and many others.

It is a popular place for students too. It is better to improve your English here.

It’s also the center of British culture.
