Royal Dublin Society was founded in 1731 for the advancement of agriculture and other branches of industry, and for the advancement of science and art, the Society’s activities have covered the wide range. The most important part of the Society’s scientific work is the publication of Scientific Proceedings, which contain original papers on all branches of science. By exchange with other learned societies a scientific library of about 100,000 volumes has been built up.
The Royal Irish Academy was founded in 1785. The Academy’s collection includes many of the most celebrated objects which are on display at the museum today.
