Сполучні займенники (conjunctive pronouns)

Займенники who (whom), whose, what і which вживаються не лише в питальних реченнях. Вони служать також для зв’язку підрядних речень з головними, тобто виконують функцію сполучних займенників. До них належить також займенник that який.

What I say is true. - Те, що я кажу, правда.

That, isn’t what you said before. - Це не те, що ви казали раніше.

I know what you think. - я знаю, що ти думаєш.

Сполучні займенники who (whom), whose, which, that вживаються в підрядних означальних реченнях. Займенник which у підрядних означальних реченнях вживається лише стосовно неістот. Сполучний займенник that може стосуватися істот і неістот:

He was greeted by all who saw him. - Його привітали всі, хто його бачив.

He ordered coffee which was promptly brought. - Він замовив каву, яку від-разу ж принесли.

But let me try to tell you the other things that have happened in the past few days. - Але я постараюся розповісти вам про інші події, що сталися протягом останніх днів.

Exercise 1. Defining Relative Pronouns. Combine the sentences using defining relative pronouns. When the relative pronoun is an object, it can be omitted.
