My institute The Institute of Philology and Journalism

The Institute of Philology and Journalism came into being in 1920 as School of Letters and historical course at Vinnytsia Institute of Public Education. The Language and Literature branch was founded in 1930, the Language-literature department – in 1933.

At present the Institute of Philology and Journalism is the biggest one at Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University. Over 1000 students study at the Institute, both full-time and correspondence students.

The Institute trains teachers in the following specialities: the Ukrainian Language and Literature, the Ukrainian Language and Literature and the English Language, Foreign Literature.

When studying literature, literary development of different periods in Ukraine is comprehended at a new angle. Biased and antiquated evaluations of many famous writers’ works are abandoned: the works of rehabilitated and unjustly forgotten writers, as well as those of the Diaspora, are introduced into the curriculum. The national characteristics of national literature and the formation of human ideals are studied in depth.

The Institute of Philology and Journalism has “Vitryla”, “Suchasnyk”, “Merezhka” literary studios and “Amator” drama society. Students publish poetic and prose collections. There are a number of celebrated teachers, honourable teachers, higher education institution teachers, scholars, and writers among the graduates.

The Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Technological Education

The history of the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Technological Education goes back to 1920. At that time it was one of the branches of the Institute of People’s Education.

The Institute offers courses for future school¬ teachers in four specialities: “Physics and Computer Studies”, “Mathematics and Computer Studies”, “Mathematics and Physics”, “Mathematics and Economics.”

The Institute has good educational facilities. For instance, the department of Physics offers practical classes in modern laboratories of mechanics, molecular physics, radio-electronics, photography, astronomy, methodology of teaching physics. Besides, there are two scientific laboratories. The department has several computer classes equipped with modern computers.

To meet the requirements the staff works at the considerable improvement of teaching, based on scientific research and modern technologies.

The Institute maintains close links with the leading universities and scientific centres of Ukraine. Closer ties are being established now with schools, lyceums and gymnasiums of the region.

The graduates of the Institute are highly qualified professionals. More than 70 of them have academic degrees. Academicians S.F. Venher, M.P. Baran, V.I. Gavrylyk are among them.

The Institute of History, Ethnology and Law

The Institute of History, Ethnology and Law has more than 700 students, among them 450 taking a full-time educational course.

The syllabus is provided by 3 chairs (History of Ukraine; World History; History of the Slavonic people). The staff includes 6 Doctors of Philosophy, 14 Associate Professors; 80 per cent of the staff holds academic and scientific degrees.

The Institute has close ties with the institutions of higher education in Ukraine. There has been fruitful co-operation between the Institute and the Institute of History of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences.

Teaching at the Institute has been enriched with recent developments of the national and world history. New forms of tutorials, debates, press conferences and role plays have been introduced there. The Institute conducts scientific research work. Emphasis is placed on the new substance of Ukrainian and world history, clearing off historical falsifications, the social economic aspect of history in Ukraine and some other countries. The results of the studies are published in monographs, scientific, history periodicals. The Institute hosts annual regional conferences on History.
