Люди довіряють медикам найцінніше – своє життя. Я хочу стати медсестрою.

По-перше, я хочу допомагати людям. Коли людина лежить у лікарні, їй часто не вистачає тепла, турботи, ласкавих слів. Медсестра проводить більше часу з хворими, ніж лікар. Вона може розрадити хворого, заспокоїти його.

По-друге, професія медсестри мені самій стане в нагоді в житті. Коли у мене буде сім'я, діти, я зможу надати їм саму елементарну медичну допомогу. Я також зможу доглядати за своїми батьками, коли вони постаріють.

Медсестра повинна володіти такими моральними якостями, як: доброта, емоційна культура, вихованість, відповідальність, вміння співчувати та переживати за долю своїх пацієнтів.

Professional Qualities of a Nurse

Nursing, it’s not just a job, it’s a profession.

A profession is any job where you need specialized knowledge and training. Nursing combines science and technology with people skills like: communication, problem solving, teaching and compassion. As a nurse, you will touch people’s lives at a time when they need help.

The variety of opportunities for nurses is endless. A nurse can earn a competitive salary and work anywhere in the world. Nurses can specialize in the same way doctors do in areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics (caring for the elderly), emergency medicine, etc. With advanced education, nurses can become independent clinical specialists like nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists or nurse practitioners.

Nursing is one of the most respected professions in the world. Nursing is expected to grow faster than all other occupations through next year (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics). In other words, there will always be jobs for nurses.

Duties and Tasks

Registered nurses may perform the following tasks:

  • provide physical and technical nursing care and support for patients

  • make sure patients receive treatment prescribed by doctors and other health professionals

  • provide emotional and psychological support and information to patients and their families

  • supervise, or carry out, nursing care of patients

  • observe, monitor, assess, report and document patients' conditions and responses to treatment

  • give medicines in accordance with sound working knowledge of legislation and pharmacology

  • monitor and adjust medical equipment used in patient care and treatment, which can be highly technical and complex

  • prepare patients for operations or provide post-operative care such as wound care and nutritional management

  • assist in the rehabilitation of patients

  • assist with patients' discharge planning

  • provide first aid, assist in routine medical examinations, give advice on health matters and maintain sickness and accident records (when employed by large industrial or commercial organisations)

  • answer questions and provide information to patients and families about health promotion, treatment and care

  • contribute to the clinical training of nursing and midwifery students

  • supervise enrolled nurses and other hospital staff.
