Topic 42. Profession of a Nurse

My Future Profession

Why do I want to become a nurse? I have many reasons but the most important is the compassion for those who suffer. A good nurse should be a responsible, compassionate, loving, reliable, attentive and comforting person and also a competent professional.

A nurse should take care of physical and emotional wellbeing of the patients. Nurse’s duties are not reduced only to administering medications and performing different procedures. They also include being with people, visiting them and talking with them. Each patient needs much attention and care.

When people are in the hospitals or nursing homes they tend to feel very vulnerable and may sometimes feel ashamed or embarrassed. Some people may not have any family or friends who can visit them during their stay in the hospital. So this is the time for the nurse to reassure and console them and make them feel comfortable.

Finally, being a nurse is more than money for me: it is caring for the patients and being able to spend my time with them to show them that I really care about their health. I really believe that dreams do come true. That’s why I never stop dreaming. I would like to become a highly qualified nurse. I want to help people and change their lives for the better. So I must study hard to become a good specialist.
