Topic 34. My College

My Medical College

Every year many young people enter medical colleges and become students. A new life begins – it is the life of the person who has the responsibility for all her actions before the society.

Some students live at the hostel, others with their relatives, some of them rent a room.

Many students get a scholarship. If a student has “fives” in all the subjects at the entrance examinations he gets an increased scholarship. The students work much in class, at the college laboratories and a library.

As the students want to become good nurses, doctor's assistants, midwives they must pay attention to modern medical literature. It means that they must study not only their textbooks but read many special medical articles.

The students must master the basis of theoretical and practical medicine. There are such theoretical subjects as: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Human Anatomy, History of Ukraine, Foreign languages, etc. Besides, the students have clinical subjects and practical training in the polyclinics and clinics of our town.

Every day the students have lectures and practical classes in different subjects. They perform different laboratory works and attend lectures in Anatomy, Nursing of the Patients and other subjects. There are two terms in the academic year. Each of them lasts for about 16-19 weeks. The students pass written and practical tests in all subjects. At the end of the winter and summer terms the students take examinations.

The students must work hard during the whole academic year to pass their examinations successfully. They should do all their best to become good specialists.
