Mass Media

Mass media play an important role in our life. Mass media consist of the press, radio and television. They inform, educate and entertain people. They also influence the way people look at the world and make them change their views.

There are newspapers and magazines for readers of all ages and professions. There are also various periodicals based on particular interests. For example, the newspaper “Silske Zhytya” is addressed mainly to rural residents, “Medical Newspaper” – to medical workers, and a lot of newspapers and magazines are published especially for teachers of schools, colleges and universities, for businessmen, etc.

There is no doubt that the role of the press is extremely important in the present-day life. People in our country are fond of reading newspapers and magazines. A lot of them subscribe to different newspapers and journals which are delivered to their homes. Newspapers come out to provide their readers with fresh news. Today people have a chance to have full information about political, economic and cultural events in their own country and abroad. Different newspapers present different points of view and approaches to the problems.

The newspapers are divided into daily and weekly. Magazines may be weekly, monthly and quarterly.

There is a wide network of TV and radio broadcasting in our country. All journalists and TV reporters do a fantastic job. Thanks to them the whole world is able to see events which take place day by day.

Many people watch TV at leisure. Our television suggests various programs: talk shows and game shows, news and sports events, programs about wildlife and about foreign countries and so on. We can also watch different movies, serials and cartoons on TV. TV shows us a lot of films of different genres: feature films, detective films, action films, documentary films, melodramas, comedies, horror films, adventure films and fantasy.

TV gives us a lot of information from the entire world. Thanks to TV, we can get information about politics, sports or entertaining events. TV also presents lots of scientific programs and nature movies. Television helps us "to visit" different lands, see new plants, animals, unusual birds, fish and insects, mountains and valleys, lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans. A lot of people watch educational programs. They teach us how to do different useful things. We can also watch weather forecast on TV.

Nowadays all the people have the radio at home. It is turned on most of the time. You can listen to the radio while doing some work about the house, reading a book or driving a car. On the radio you can listen to music, you can hear last news, interesting educational quiz-programs, weather forecast and so on.
