The right of the child to freely express views is not covered by this Convention.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the first legally binding international instrument concerning the protection and promotion of the rights of the child.
It doesn’t attach any importance to international cooperation and assistance.
To emphasize the interdependence of human rights the Convention combines civil and political rights with economic, social and cultural rights.
The Convention acknowledges the primary role of the State in the care and protection of the child.

Text 8. Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict
1. Complete the following text with the right English equivalents: proscribes, feasible, voluntary, raise, safeguards, increase, compulsory, implementation, armed conflict, prohibits, recruitment, distinct, hostilities.
The objective of the Optional Protocol is to увеличить the protection of children from involvement in военный конфликт by raising the age of possible набор of persons into the armed forces and their participation in военные действия.
The Optional Protocol establishes an obligation upon States to take all возможные measures to prevent the direct participation in hostilities by individuals under the age of 18. It запрещает the обязательный recruitment of persons under the age of 18 into the armed forces, and also obliges States to поднять the minimum age for добровольного recruitment of persons into the armed forces above the age set by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It further requires States to establish гарантии relative to the voluntary recruitment of individuals under the age of 18. The Protocol also осуждает и запрещает the recruitment of persons under the age of 18 years by armed groups that are отличные from the armed forces of a State. Finally, the Optional Protocol sets forth an obligation upon States to report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child on its применение.
The Optional Protocol entered into force on 12 February 2002.
