Larry, thank you for being with us today and being part of the magazine for this issue. I am going to start out by just asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself and your growing up years.
Larry: I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Lancaster County Pennsylvania and came to Christ through the sport of hunting. Dad said we worked hard all year, but when November came we could have the entire month off to go hunting. Every day after school and every Saturday in November, I hit the woods and as I looked to the deer, squirrels, and trees I was absolutely convinced there had to be a God. No one would have convinced me that He does not exist. My struggle, however, was that He designed me and that meant love and love meant presence. So where was He? I could not conceive of a God who could make something and leave it. So what rock was He under, what tree is He is behind? I decided to study the Bible and I came to Christ through my personal Bible study. I knelt by my bed one night and said, “God the best I know how I am trusting Christ as my personal Savior.” And my life exploded! As I grew I realized what God had done. He had taken me from creation to the creature and then to Christ, but He started it all through the sport of hunting and that is why I so love hunting. Not only do I love the sport, but it takes me back to the place that I met the Lord. I tell people if I lead to you Christ you can hug me. I have got to hug a tree because it is creation that God used bring me to Christ. He took me from the creation to the Creator to Christ. From the day I was saved I felt I wanted to be an evangelist. That is all I cared to do. Academic-wise I went to what was then Philadelphia Biblical University where I got my Bachelor Degree. I then went to Dallas Seminary where I got my Master’s, then earned my Doctor of Ministry Degree from Gordon-Conwell in Boston.
