L’VIV – brody motorway

Motorway, with a length of 80,2 km is the extension of L'viv – Krakovets' tollway in the influence zone of Berlin – Wroclaw – L'viv – Kyiv international transport corridor №3. Project will be implemented on concession terms. Financing of the project implementation can be accomplished with external sources involved either on terms of returning funds obtained or capital sharing. Project value as on the date of 01.09.1999 amounts to EUR 128 million.

Operation of the motorway within the network of abovementioned transport corridors will provide reliable and effective transport connections as for the directions:

• central European countries - CIS countries;

• south European countries, Africa - CIS countries and North European countries;

• transcaucasian countries and Middle Asia - Western Europe and Scandinavia. Term of validity of the concession agreement, stipulated by a project implementation plan, is 50 years.

Investment phase (and its stages) and the beginning of an operation phase are divided into two orders in accord with the priorities of road construction and design:

1 order - L'viv - Bus'k

2 order - Bus'k - Brody

Estimated payback period for the project is 14.2 years. Estimated net discounted revenue for the period 2002-2025 will amount to UAH 60738 thousand.

The project is on a preparatory stage. Brody–L'viv tollway can be extended to Rivne town where it will be connected with the existing Rivne–Zhitomir–Kyiv road.

Environmental Impact Summary

The motorway will be built to detour population areas, to preserve existing animals migration paths, to meet effective environmental standards in Ukraine and EC. The project stipulates reduction of negative environmental impacts. Increased efficiency of traffic along the road will mitigate automotive negative impact on the environment.

Possible obstacles / problems, risk assessment:

Risk related to predicted traffic level is not achieved mainly for the reasons as follows:

• growth level of economy of Ukraine, and Western regions in particular, is inadequate to the predicted level of growth.

• strict entrance regulations are established in Central and East European countries.

KHARKOV – KYIV – L’VIV – UZHGOROD

The route begins at Kharkov and brings you to Kiev, the capital оf Ukraine. Kiev is mоrе than а thousand years old. Аmong the аnсiant monuments carefully preserved in the city are the "Golden Gate" built in 1037, Кyivo-Pecherskaya Lavra (Monasteгy) with а collection оf works оf art, St. Sophia's Cathedral and other cultural relics оf the past. Kiev is situated on the right bank of the beautiful river - Dnieper.

The Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the Academy оf Architecture and many other scientific institutions have their seats in the capital. There аrе 8 theatres in Kiev, 12 museums and many sports grounds.

Kiev industry produces excavators, machines, motor- cycles, etc.

From Kiev the road runs to the city of Lvov. It is sometimes called the city of museums. But it mау be cal1ed the city of buses as well. The medium­caрacity Motor Bus LAZ (L’vovski Avtomobilny Zavod) is bui1t for urban раssеngеr service on moderately crowded routes. It is powered by а six­суlindеr ZIL engine. The engine is located in the rear end of the bus. The body of the bus is of the all-metal wagon type with а load-carrying base.

А particular feature or the body is absence of bolted and riveted joints which, as а rule, have to be periodically checked and tightened in operation. А firm frame welded of rectangular steel pipes gives а high strength and rigidity of the body.

The design of the body ensures аl1-уеаг-rоund passenger services in cities with different geographical and climatic conditions, and а high degree of safety for the passengers.

Comfort for the passengers both sitting and moving in and out of the bus is provided for by rational arrangement of the seats and by locating the doors beyond the body-base. The maximum number of passengers is 55 persons. The peak, capacity of the bus is 74 passengers.

The design of the body has а рrоvisiоn for соnvеrting it into а comfortable tourist (inter-city) bus.

From Lvov the road runs to Uzhgorod, the centre of Тrаnsсаrраthiаn Rеgiоn, one of the most ancient cities. Tourists mау visit the University, the theatre, the museum and art gallery houses in the ancient Uzhgorod castle.
