Pitter, patter, rain drops.

  1. Prepare nice reading of the story. Mind the difference in the pronunciation of phonemes /Ts/. Think over and finish the story.

Sue had always thought of going to Athens and now she had the chance at last. She was a journalist and her boss was sending her there to do a series of articles of the city. But before Sue left her three-room apartment in Boston several friends warned her not to go out alone in Athens. "It's a dangerous place. There are many thieves and thugs there and people get robbed on broad daylight". But when she got there, she thought only about her work and completely forgot all her friends' warnings. Sue was having supper in a small bar when she suddenly felt someone watching her. When she left the bar she stopped to look at something in a shop-window. To her surprise she saw the man follow her and got scared. She thought he was a thief and saw his knife at her throat. She began to run but as it was thawing she fell to the earth and hurt her thigh. She couldn't run any more so she clutched her purse and pretended unconscious.

Sounds /td/

At the articulation of the phonemes /t/, /d/ the blade with the tip rises up to the alveolar ridge, farming the joining (linking) with it.

/t/ consonant, occlusive, voiceless, apical or alveolar.

/d/ – consonant, occlusive, voiced, apical or alveolar.

Don't forget! /t/ is pronounced with aspiration.
