2. Prospects for the development of modern sociology

Discipline: «Sociology»

Project staff: students of first course

Presentation form: mini project

Deadline:

The number of students involved in the project: 5-7 students.

Types of work on the project: research, analysis, synthesis, total

The use of technology for the project: a computer, cameras, video, political map, illustrations, etc.

The main aim of the project - To study modern methods and techniques of sociology

Tasks of the project:

- to disclose the actual problems of theoretical and applied sociology

- to show the difference and unity in the methods of research of theoretical and applied sociology

- to form a holistic attitude to the application Sociological Methods and Research in Social Work

- to learn the specifics of the current state of sociological analysis

The structure of the project:

  1. You should work out one social problem for your sociological research abiding by the steps of sociological process (starting from defining a problem, finishing by controlling other factors).

  2. Reporting and protecting it with presentation on Power Point. It is obligatory for all.

  3. After doing it, please write short abstract answering to these questions:

  1. List and explain the basic steps in your research process

  2. Describe the difficulties that you encountered in defining a problem

  3. Define and give an example of operational definitions from your sociological project

  4. Give reasons why you reviewed especially this literature on this social problem

  5. Define and give an example of variables from your sociological research

  6. Explain why you used this definite method(s) for gathering data

  1. Please, when you are doing your sociological projects try to rest on such criteria and parameters of assessment. It will help you to get excellent marks. Note the fact that students of your groups will also be participating in evaluation process.

Students can get from a teacher such total points: 50-minimum, 100 -maximum

  1. Student’s criteria of evaluation (Students will also participate in a process of evaluation being members of commission)

Students can get from members of student commission such total points: 50-minimum, 100 -maximum

Minimum Total (Teacher’s points + Students’ points) = 50+50=100 points/2=50 points,

Maximum Total (Teacher’s points + Students’ points): 100+100=200 points/2=100 points.
