7.* Let’s sing a song!

I know an old lady who swallowed the fly

I don’t know why, she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die…

I know an old lady who swallowed the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t know why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die….

I know an old lady who swallowed the bird

Now, how absurd to swallow the bird.

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t know why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die….

I know an old lady who swallowed the cat

Now, fancy that to swallow the cat.

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t know why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die…..

I know an old lady who swallowed the dog

What a hog to swallow the dog.

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die….

I know an old lady who swallowed the goat

She just opened her throat and swallowed the goat

She swallowed the goat to catch the dog

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t know why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die….

I know an old lady who swallowed the cow

I don’t know how she swallowed the cow

She swallowed the cow to catch the goat

She swallowed the goat to catch the dog

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly

But I don’t know why she swallowed the fly

Perhaps she’ll die….

I know an old lady who swallowed the horse

She’s dead, of course!

8. Read the following rhymes. Mind the English rhythm:

Tommy Trot, a man of law,

Sold his bread and lay upon straw

Sold the straw and lay on grass

To buy his wife a looking –glass.

***

As I was going to St. Ives

I met a man with seven wives.

Every wife had seven sacks,

Every sack had seven cats,

Every cat had seven kits.

Kits, cats, sacks and wives

How many were there going to St. Ives?

***

Jack Sprat could not eat no fat

His wife could not eat no lean

And so between them both, you see,

They left the platter clean.

***

Spades for digging, pens for writing

Ears for hearing, teeth for biting

Eyes for seeing, legs for walking,

Tongues for tasting and for talking.
