Culture Variations
Culture is usually a tradition that contains the beliefs and values of an organization, people or even a country. It is usually a unifying factor that builds long lasting relations among people as well enhance a cooperation that enables them to work together with the same aim of a common goal. Organizations need to have a solid culture to ensure that it is able to last for long. This culture is responsible for driving home the effectiveness and efficiency, and ensuring that the organization gains respect in the market. Culture is like the backbone of a long-lasting high performing institution. [ CITATION KAz03 \l 1033 ]
Culture is more of a belief aimed towards the realization of certain goals and objectives. When the culture is altered in whatever way, there may be a positive or a negative shift that will be only apparent gradually. It is usually difficult to anticipate the reaction of individuals to a change in the philosophy that they have been used to. It is even generally almost impossible to guess the kind of reaction a certain ideology is going to have. However, bold decisions in management are what separate the successful from the failures.[ CITATION TDe05 \l 1033 ]
Moreover, if the management deems it fit to change the culture, it can only be because they feel that the way the organization was being run was not conducive to meeting the set targets. Therefore, effective management and leadership entails that the administration is able to sell their new ideology to their employees to ensure that there is no negative reaction to change. It has been noted that the human nature is prone to accept and interpret change in different ways depending with their different needs.[ CITATION Ste \l 1033 ]
Therefore, if the cultural change is based on a productive mindset, it will be easily adopted and will lead to a strong organization internally. However, the clientele too have to be able to understand the change and really buy into it. This is, however, easily as long as the internal structure of the organization is in sync with the change and progress to adopt is spurred from within. Moreover, the structure and management styles too have to be adjusted to cope with the change and to ensure that the objectives are met. This is an adaptive mechanism that is aimed at ensuring the change is gradual and done in stages to ensure that the transition is smooth.[ CITATION Nga12 \l 1033 ]
However, a negative change to culture has led to the decline and downfall of many organizations. This is dependent on the change being implemented if it suits the organization and the purpose that it holds to the clientele and staff. The timing of the change is also a major determinant of how the change is perceived. If the timing is not conducive, it can lead to the failure of the intended change leading to poor outcomes.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the change in culture is dependent on many factors, of which the major one is the substance of the management. If the management is wise and well informed the transition takes place successfully, otherwise, it leads to unwanted results.
