Text 2 Resume
A resume is a short summary of the candidate’s background and qualifications. It is designed to present him or her as a prospective employee. Any resume should be detailed enough to produce a favourable impression of the candidate. But it should also be concise. A busy employer usually wants the important facts in as few words as possible.
The candidate’s aim in sending a resume is to get an interview. The employer wants to know who you are, what you want to do, and what you can do. Thus the resume should be well-organized and include positive information about the candidate’s skills and accomplishments – in school, work, and personal life.
There is no single format for a resume. Yet each one should begin with his or her name, address, and telephone number. This information should be followed by a clear statement of the candidate’s objectives in terms of the job title or job responsibilities he or she is seeking.
To catch the employer’s attention the best qualifications are listed early in the resume. If the candidate’s education is the strongest point, it is put before the work history. Formal education is listed including names and addresses of schools, dates attended, degrees or certificates received and the major subjects and areas of specialization.
Work experience is considered to be the most important part of the resume too. It may be arranged in two ways: by job or chronologically and by function. The job format lists jobs and experiences in the order they occur. As a rule, the most recent job is presented first. The function format is a collection of specific examples of how the candidate has demonstrated certain job skills.
Next on the resume for most candidates comes the section about personal background and interests. It includes the information about the knowledge of foreign languages, recreational activities, and special skills, memberships in professional organizations, publications, inventions and awards.
