An Invitation Letter
Some time ago Dr. Bogomolov, a staff member of the loffe Physical Technical Institute in St.Petersburg, received a letter from the USA inviting him to participate in a symposium which was to be held in Boston. The letter ran as follows.
May 15, 1991.
Dear Dr. Bogomolov,
The American Physical Society is sponsoring a symposium on Semiconductor Device Research to be held in Boston on September 2-4, 1991. The symposium will focus on the synthesis and properties of semiconductor devices.
The purpose of this letter is to invite you to present a paper at the symposium on your recent work in this area as a plenary lecturer. Since you have pioneered some of the structures in the last 20 years, your presence would be particularly appreciated. We anticipate that there will be considerable interest in this topic area.
If you accept our invitation, we will waive your registration fee. We have also applied for funds to pay for your living expenses during the symposium and for your transportation from New York to Boston and back. If however you are unable to attend but would like to sent one of your staff, the invitation is open for that purpose.
Our symposium will allow an exchange of ideas and presentation of important results in the area of semiconductor devices with a rapid publication of the Proceedings.
We hope that you will be able to participate and are looking forward to your reply. If you have any questions, please contact myself or Alex Coleman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston.
Sincerely,
James Newbury
Program Committee Chairman

VII. Participation in a Conference
Подтверждение участия в конференции:
– личное согласие приглашенных,
– внесение регистрационного взноса (registration fee).
Иногда важно внести этот взнос как можно раньше, ибо число участников конференции ограничено и их регистрация проводится в хронологическом порядке (first-come basis registration): “Participation will be restricted to about 75 registrants in order to encourage audience interaction. Registration will be open on a first-come basis and is scheduled to be closed on or before 1 May 1982 depending on the response”.
Часто участникам предлагается воспользоваться ранней регистрацией (“early birds” registration) с соответствующей скидкой, которая тем больше, чем раньше уплачен взнос:
─ 31 January 1981 |
Deadline for “early birds” registration, at the price SF 200. ─ |
─ 31 May 1981 |
Deadline for registration, at the price SF 250. ─ |
All people who register after this date will be required to pay SF 300. ─
